This book is beautifully made, but the title is a little deceiving. It is one mans journey, not a practical guide as the title would indicate

When I first learned of this book, I knew I had to pre-order it. Michael Beirut is one of the most exciting designers of the past few decades (and one of my favorite partners in the NY Pentagram office). His engaging and approachable personality easily becomes visible in his work.Every chapter is wonderfully written and lushly illustrated with his process and the final solution. The chapter "How to be a graphic designer in the middle of nowhere" literally gave me chills as his introduction to design and his growth as an artist was similar to mine.Thank you and bravo, Mr. Bierut for creating easily my new favorite book and quite possibly the BEST book on graphic design. Highly recommended.

As a fan of Michael Bierut's work, this book is a fantastic dip into a variety of his projects and each of the various challenges, thought processes, and creative solutions he encountered and integrated along the way. Wesley approached the Calvinistic doctrine in a respectable straightforward manner leaving no stones unturned. His use of Scripture and sound reasoning appeals to the heart of God and the gospel message. How is God just to condemn most of the human race in whom He has predetermined would suffer the flames of hell, for doing only what He has decreed they would do? How is God love, who has passed over a great portion of mankind without ever giving them the ability to repent and turn to Him?John Wesley draws from Scripture the true meaning of justice and love concluding that only individuals with a free will, having the ability to choose right or wrong, blessing or curse, can only make sense to God's love justice, and wisdom. I found this to be an excellent read and one that makes sense to the entire nature of God as revealed to man. Thus, God has sovereignly determined to create a world in which all who would believe in His Son would not perish but have eternal life.

Wesley is way more loving than me when it comes to Calvanist nonsense. He lovingly refutes it. Again, lovingly. I usually just make fun of people that believe it.

I have been struggling for quite some time with the difference between Calvin and Arminian, TULIP and Free Will Having been raised on Calvinism and in recent years realized I did not really believe it: now I know why.

I was unable to read this book on my kindle because it is formatted like thiswhich is somewhat distracting and irritatingI tried making the font bigger and smallerbut it was all to no avail.I tried both versions butfaced the same problem although The KyprosPress version seemed worse from memory

I gave this five stars because I believe it to be the most thorough explanation given for holding to Arminianism. Wesley really makes one realize that the most natural reading of the Bible convinces the reader that salvation IS of the Lord and the way we persevere in that salvation will ultimately determine our reward on Judgment Day. Far from being a doctrine that teaches salvation by works, it teaches that God saves us in order that we may persevere in good works. If we do not, after we have knowledge of the truth, we will be reprobate and will suffer an eternity in the lake of fire which was prepared for the Devil and his angels (notice the contrast between this and what Jesus says about the Kingdom; it was created for the faithful before the foundation of the world, though hell was not).

I was directed to this reading while in another book, Against Calvinism, by Roger E. Olson. As I first humorously noted in THAT text, I found Wesley's thoughts on predestination to be everything but calm. He undoubtedly, and in my mind, Inarguably tears it to shreds with his Biblical reasoning.A Calvinist's nightmare, Wesley is unapologetic about the logical roads that predestination leads to.. the biggest being that predestinations allows God to damn people and takes away from his love.Calvinist, Wesleyan, Arminian, whoever - you have to read this.One thing about this book - is that the FORMAT is sometimes very distracting. The best way I dealt with is, is upsize my text on my Kindle to large, and broadened the space in the margins as much as possible.

Very thorough in citing Biblical references in context and in applying solid reasoning to his interpretation. I think he makes his case very well.

In a world where Calvinism is on the rise, this is a treasure. Sad that most preachers/churches don't know what a great scholar Wesley was.

This book was a struggle to read. There are a lot of great facts but the author obviously has some animosity against Native Americans. There is very little good to say about them in this book. I know the subject matter is supposed to be about the kid napping of Cynthia Ann so you could paint the natives as the bad guys, but the author seems to forget that the pioneers were encroaching on their lands in the first place. Also, there is very little about Cynthia Ann in this book overall. She's more of a chapter or two instead of the reason for the book. I know the facts are sketchy but this book just wasn't pleasant to read.

A great account of the Parker family in American history. Cynthia Ann was a child of 9 when kidnapped by a band of Comanche warriors who raided the Parker settlement in Texas. For the next 20+ years, Cynthia Ann lived and became a Comanche. She gave birth to her children fathered by a Comanche Chief. Her oldest son, Quanah Parker lived to be the last Chief of the Comanche people. Cynthia Ann was returned to the remaining white family members with her infant daughter. The child soon died and While still a woman of mid 30's She died as well, never able to adjust to the life of the white eyes. Quanah Parker never gave up trying to find out the fate of his mother. Raiding white settlement in the Texas and Oklahoma panhandle to steal horses, cattle and kill as many whites as he could. It was the end of the era for the American Indians and their free roam of the plains. Be sure to read this and the biography of Quanah Parker. Today, in Texas, there is a town named Quanah and a Parker County in tribute to the incredible story of the Parker family.

It's a fascinating story of Texas girl captured by Indians, marrying a chief and having his children. And, as usual with these stories, she is never fully able to take up her former life when freed.

I have always been fascinated by the Comanche’s and their captives. Growing up in southwestern Oklahoma I was in the middle of their territory. The Cynthia Ann Parker story and her son Quannah are legendary.The story telling is a little dated and sometimes melodramatic at times but it is still a good read.

This book is the perfect companion to the book Empire of the Summer Moon. Cynthia was the mother of Quanah Parker, probably the most famous American Indian who ever lived. (Empire was a Pulitzer Prize finalist and I recommend reading it first)

I like the story,however ,it seems to be told from the side of the white, the Indians were fine in their own environment till the whites got greedy,but this book seems to be mostly about how awful the Indian was.

great, easy read. I had known the Cynthia Ann Parker from reading Empire of the Summer Moon. This book delves further into the personal story of Ms. Parker, and also tells of factual events in Native American history.

So well written with excellent knowledge of the history of the time, excellent knowledge of the customs and lifestyle of the Indians. The characters were so real and I enjoyed the love affair between Cynthia Ann and Nocona. I travel through Quanah, Texas at least twice a year and was so excited to find out more about that great chief. I couldn't wait to see what happened next but was sorry for the book to end.

I have macular degeneration and I have made a commitment to enjoy the visuals arts while I still can. Molly Hashimoto's latest book, Colors of the West is the right book at the right time for me. From cover to cover, this beautiful book is a feast for my not so great eyes. Each and every one of the hundreds of paintings, beautifully reproduced here, is worth my time and study. And the text gives us an idea of the artist's craft. Also, as a native North-westerner, this book is a moving trip down memory lane: Crater Lake, the North Cascades, the San Juan Islands, Lake Crescent, and more. I think you will love this book.

I am absolutely infatuated with this book, and Molly Hashimoto is my newest artist crush. This book is a cross between a fine art coffe table book, and an instructional guide. It leans more towards showing off lovely watercolor paintings and sketches, but is liberally sprinkled with hints on colors and techniques to try to achieve similar results. There aren’t a lot of detailed instructions, but enough to encourage the reader to try. It’s also full of descriptions of the areas the paintings are from, the flora and fauna there, and color clues to capture the tone of each. As the author is a Seattle-based outdoor enthusiast and painter, my home town and hiking grounds, many of her paintings are familiar landscapes to me, and it is exciting to see her vision of our home region. I find this book very inspiring. It makes me want to sit down and paint, give me enough encouragement and tips to get over my usual “where do I begin” anxiety, and makes me want to get outside with my paints as often as possible. I use it as inspiration for my sketchbook practice.

I would give this at least 10 stars if I could. It is a superb book that will thrill nature lovers of the West as well as artists of many different media and art lovers.. I love the west and Molly Hashimoto's watercolors absolutely capture the essence and beauty of dozens and dozens of my favorite places and wildlife. Beautifully and thoughtfully put together with quotes from other artists, and page after page of exquisite watercolors. Not to mention the gold mine of tips and techniques for artists. I gave this to a plein air pastel artist friend who went on for two pages about Molly's book in her thank you note to me. I plan to give many, many more copies to friends and family.

Beautiful illustrations, subdued and stunning colors. This book is inspiring. Can't wait to see if I can paint similar pictures myself.

Great gift for an artist friend, and I'm tempted to order a copy for myself simply to enjoy the prints.

I have read every one of Kelly Corrigan’s books. I was waiting, excitedly, for her newest TELL ME MORE: STORIES ABOUT THE 12 HARDEST THINGS I’M LEARNING TO SAY. I wanted to be able to absorb it with no distractions, full eyes, and knowing that her words were going to speak to me. Just as the messages in her other books did. Kelly writes with such conviction and just the right nuance of humor, about subjects that are both challenging as well as the everyday. Nailing it every time.Whether thinking about her departed larger than life father, Greenie, or her dearest friend Liz, who also passed away, way too soon, but who lives on for Kelly through her children, with whom she remains so close.Tell me more, Kelly. “It’s like this.” That last paragraph. I have re-read it several times and plan to again and again. Ground control. I could barely get through it. In a good way. I might have snorted when she wrote that her daughters know more about “JoJo and Jordan from The Bachelorette than with Jacob and Joseph from the Bible” after watching Ruby up on the bimah.My laughter was probably audible down the street when she talks about her teenage daughters as you can just visualize each scenario: Kelly feels like an underappreciated chauffeur, has had more eye rolls than a woman deserves in a lifetime, but she gives as well as she gets. I can relate like we were separated at birth with her own teen years laid out in one sentence through a TV show, popular singer, and pantry item.​You do not need to be grieving, nor a parent, to read TELL ME MORE. Just human with a soul. Kelly dishes some of the best wisdom that a person can give in this book about things that you wish you knew in advance of the hard stuff that inevitably comes.I am not a fan of self-help books at all. Never was, not sure I ever will be. But give me a memoir that is thoughtful, introspective and is not forcing a way of life on you and I am all in. This is the kind of book that you come away from feeling like you had a great weekend with a trusted friend. Refreshed, reflective, the best cry ever, and oh, the laughter.

This book was absolutely beautiful. Beautifully written, instantly drawing you in, evoking emotions, making you think. I laughed a lot of genuine laughter and I cried many, many tears. Thank you Kelly Corrigan for letting me feel so many emotions while reading your lovely book.I've been recommending this book to EVERYONE I know, I've even sent out emails. For what its worth I've read 14 books in 5 weeks of 2018 and this is one of two that I've found to be worth of recommendation.

I have had “Tell Me More” on my TBR stack for some time yet I was hesitant to read because of the subject matter. After a year (2016) that ended with challenge and disruption, this was a gentle reminder of how necessary it still is, and how empowering it can be, to take time to reflect, honor and heal after loss - or simply as a way to grow in life. The insights are at once universal, and uniquely personal. Kelly Corrigan is the best mentor I’ve ever wished I had, and fictitiously claimed for personal reference....Thank you, once again, Ms. Corrigan.

I know everyone says this, but it was honestly like having a delightful, real conversation with a very good friend.

I was really looking forward to this book, but I didn't even make it through the entire book. I read the first 141 pages, but then I had to stop. I had read enough about human feces on the bathroom floor. The author's foul-mouthed language is over the top at times -- a real turn off. Too bad -- it definitely had potential at times.

I have been looking forward to this book for so long! Read it in a day, as I have with all of her others. Kelly has the unique ability to make you feel as though she is speaking to you and only you. She keeps it real and grabs you from the first page. Always laugh out loud and cry when reading her words. Looking forward to seeing Kelly in the Bay Area in February.
