Original 08/31/13Great book that is well organized. Tons of useful information for all the hikes. Hike difficulty ratings are fairly accurate.Update 05/21/14My friend and I have now done about 15 hikes in this book so I thought I'd provide an update. We map all the hikes using MapMyRun app. Recently we realized the total trail mileage per hike is often accurate but the intermediate mileage from point A to point B along the trail is frequently wrong. Recommend you match up the book diagram to the gps tracking diagram on your cell phone to see if you miss a turn or not.Best trails in order are below. In general all the best trails seem to be south of STL. Highly recommend all the ones below for the fall. Pictures with changing leaf colors were spectacular from the lookout points.1. Green Rock Trail2. Pickle Springs Natural Area - Trail Through Time3. Pere Marquette State Park4. Hawn State Park

This is our go-to book for choosing hikes within the St. Louis area. Originally checked it out from the library and used it so often we bought the updated version on Amazon. There are a variety of hikes listed for hikers of all skill level. Makes you appreciate all the beauty this area has to offerUPDATE: I've now owned this book for a bit and have had a chance to really utilize it. The descriptions for the hikes are pretty accurate considering when the last update was and now. I have found a few of the areas to have additional hikes or some of the trails that once had generic names have been named. These are minor details though. Directions listed to get to the trailheads, parks, natural areas and conservation areas are accurate. In some cases, they are better to use than your GPS.I like to make notes after I hike a trail or an area, so I do wish there was a blank page or two included with each chapter so that trail and area notes could be made. In addition, when the book is updated, it would be great to have a website or something online linked to the book.I still consider this the best hiking book for the St. Louis and surrounding areas. If you live in the STL area and love hiking, this is a must have for your collection or anyone you know who loves to hike. It's given me an appreciation for where I live and what the area has to offer.Please note, I have updated my star rating to a 4 from a 5 due to some of the things I wish were different about the book.

We have used the older version of this book many times over the years. We misplaced it, and I got my husband this new edition for Christmas. I'm sure this one will get lots of use as well.

Lots of the right kind of details.

This book is a great resource for those in the Saint Louis area. I've been hiking around this area for 15-20 years and still hadn't known about many of the hikes listed in this guide. It covers all the classic spots around here, but has some more obscure ones too. Of course, the 60 miles thing is a bit of a stretch, but most of the further ones are well worth the drive. Best regional hiking resource I've found.

If you live in the St. Louis area and enjoying hiking, this is a must-have book. Very useful tips about various trails (terrain, difficulty, maps, views, seasonality, etc.). I've enjoyed a lot of trails that I never would have known about without this book. Highly recommend!

A wonderful list of local hikes for every skill level, with detailed notes and trail maps

This is a great book for novice hikers. We've already used it to find some great new trails to explore around Missouri. The author does a good job outlining the difficulty of trails and things to look out for. I'd recommend if you're looking to explore the area's scenery.

I have had many questions and The Wondering Jew helped to answer many of those questions. I shared it with my daughter and teen-age granddaughter who were about the celebrate the High Holidays with little knowledge of what they were truly celebrating. I thank Ellen Brazer for enlightening us.The book was written in language that was informal with references and quotes that were relevant for me. I learned, I pondered, and there are still questions in my mind, but I hope to hear Ms Brazer speak at a Book & Author event to learn even more. I suggest that people who want to learn more about Jewish dogma and traditions, read this book.

I have read Ellen's other books and enjoyed them. When I saw she had published this book I decided to read it and am glad I did. She describes her personal journey in a serious but light hearted way. She gives the reader an abbreviated history of the Jewish people that would be interesting to all faiths. I enjoyed this book and it just reaffirms the pride I have in being Jewish. Thanks Ellen!

Ellen Brazer has written an account of her journey into Judaism that is intelligent, scholarly and yet infinitely approachable. The personal and conversational tone of her writing is at once instructive and comforting. Ms. Brazer opens mindful gateways to the reader- holding us close to accompany her on her journey with ample room to explore ones own religious beliefs. Her voice is the most charming of teachers.

I saw myself in some of them, and enjoyed the experiences of others like I would as if they were a good friend telling me about the incredible night they had over coffee the next morning.)But the erotica I enjoy most are well-written stories that give me new naughty ideas I can try out for myself. As a queer/pansexual switchy individual, let's just say I got a lot out of this book. I was especially relieved to find powerful dominant femmes in more than one story.The theme of the collection is Outsiders and Risk and each writer takes the theme in a new direction. For me, one of the pleasures of reading the book is waiting for the "risk" to reveal itself. The risks are often a major part of the erotic build-up, kicking these stories into sensual overdrive.In many of the stories, the concept of outsiders manifests through a narrator with a marginalized component in their identity, such as race or disability. The editor always does a good job of creating a refreshingly inclusive anthology, which makes me even more inclined to support the series.

I love this series, just wish they were all available on Kindle. I had to buy the paperbacks and after being a kindle convert for many years a physical book is very clunky to hold and read, especially at night in bed.

I have read all of the Eddie Flynn books, what an excellent read . No holds barred as Flynn uses some deceitful tactics to get to the truth. I hope there are more Flynn novels in the pipeline.

The Liar like the previous novels of Steve Cavanagh keeps the reader on the edge of his/her seat until the last word has been written.The novel is filled with suspense and intrigue and I would definitely recommend it.

Steve Cavanagh books are awesome and very difficult to put down. Great read.

About the Author

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in April, 1564, and his birth is traditionally celebrated on April 23. The facts of his life, known from surviving documents, are sparse. He died on April 23, 1616, and was buried in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford. Peter Holland was director of the Shakespeare Institute, Stratford-upon-Avon, and a professor of Shakespeare studies at the University of Birmingham. He is now McMeel Family Chair of Shakespeare Studies at University of Notre Dame.  A. R. Braunmuller is Distinguished Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of California at Los Angeles. He has written critical volumes on George Peele and George Chapman and has edited plays in both the Oxford (King John) and Cambridge (Macbeth) series of Shakespeare editions. He is also general editor of The New Cambridge Shakespeare.   Stephen Orgel is the Jackson Eli Reynolds Professor of the Humanities at Stanford University and general editor of the Cambridge Studies in Renaissance Literature and Culture. When I saw Romeo & Juliet in the theatre -- on its opening weekend -- after the film in the lobby I saw dozens of teenaged girls sobbing in each other's arms. I've never seen anything like that before or since. That alone marks the film as a masterpiece, and nothing any critic can say is relevant next to that emotional reaction. Those sobbing teenagers are absolute proof that any critic who panned this film is a fool.Di'Caprio wasn't very famous at that point (though I believe he'd already been nominated for an oscar for an indy film). Later that night, I had dinner with friends and predicted that this boy would become the biggest star in Hollywood -- by tomorrow! I was off by a couple of years. Rare in film history has there been such a perfect casting -- Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo. The mythical balcony scene is freshly designed and executed wonderfully, bringing the myth to life before our eyes. But the crowning glory and superpower of this film is the 'love at first sight' scene - ironic in that there are no words spoken (words being Shakespeare's superpower). It's all done with the eyes by the two young genius actors, combined with inspired camera work and the devastating vocal performance of Des'ree. This is one of the most beautiful, greatest, and most powerful scenes in cinematic history.What is this emotion -- love at first sight? It might only happen two or three times in our entire lives. It isn't real love. So is it just trivial, adolescent silliness? I think it is much more than that -- and so did Shakespeare. What is our emotional relationship with our desires that can never be? We're haunted forever by the impossiblity of perfect love as much as we were ever thrilled by the fantasy of it. Baz Luhrmann's 'Romeo & Juliet' taps deeply into the impossible longings that never leave us. It is a masterpiece.

As an English teacher, teaching Shakespeare can be quite a challenge. For modern students, trying to connect the concepts, theme, and setting of Romeo and Juliet can be quite a challenge. Keeping them engaged in the struggle of Shakespearean language is even more so. This version of the play is accurate and most importantly, entertaining. We, as a class, will read a portion of the play and then I will show this film to help cement ideas, dialogue, and characters. The students love the film, laugh, and respond better to the play than without!

I did not want to see this movie for years after its release. I consider myself a purist where the Bard of Avon is concerned. I adored the films Henry V & Much Ado About Nothing, both directed and starring Kenneth Branaugh, Richard III starring and directed by Olivier. Period costumes, true to Shakespeare's lines, etc. I began to change when I realized (fairly early on in watching it) that 10 Things I Hate About You, was a delightful retelling of The Taming Of The Shrew. Eventually I watched this and found a gem. From the factions portrayed as rival gangs, to the outstanding delivery of the lines. The true crowning jewel is the over the top performance by the inimitable John Leguizamo. As Tibalt, John is amazing.

I really love this book. It made understanding a lot easier for my students. ~BUT~ I will say that some parts are a little much. It seems the translator looks for the most vulgar way to word some of Shakespeare's crude jokes (Shakespeare is crude, to be sure--and some of it is quite funny. However, sometimes the translator goes too far the other way). Plus, there were parts that weren't necessarily as sexual in the original as it was presented in the translated version (like scenes that were purposely left ambiguous so that it might have been interpreted in more than one way). This actually took away from the cleverness and thoughtfulness of some of Shakespeare's jokes.Because of this, I had to pre-read all the scenes to choose which scenes we read in this book, and which ones we read from the original text (from the textbook, where students couldn't read the translation). I did find, however, that the classes that used BOTH original and translated readings for the unit had an easier time understanding the original text when challenged to do so (likely because they didn't feel as overwhelmed from days of old text).This is a very useful tool for the classroom. Both versions are important--and, truthfully, some of my students preferred the original text, and some preferred the new text, so switching between the two for certain scenes was a great exercise.

This is such a great reimagining of the Shakespearean play. My students love this version and it keeps their attention with the fast-paced plot, colorful scenes, and flashy costumes. However, this edition is the NEW Music edition of the DVD, so there are added bonuses to this new disc. The music edition features a 45 minute documentary of how they picked the songs that were used in the movie. Twenty years after this film came out, my students are still singing along with some of the songs--they were the perfect choices and were timeless songs (and hey, if my students know Prince's "When the Doves Cry" more than 30 years after the song's initial release, yes, it is timeless).My DVD did not look like the photo (the cover is a bit different, although it does say "Music Edition") but I bought it for the movie and not for the cover. If you are a fan of this version of the movie and you don't have the music edition, you need this one. If you're just a Romeo and Juliet fan and have (gasp!) never seen this 1996 version, go ahead and take a chance. You'll love it.

I have a Haynes manual and even have a factory shop manual for my 79 FLH 1200.The Haynes is pretty worthless for model specific pictures or even diagrams.and I read it when I need to get some sleep.The shop manual is the gold standard.The clymer is way above the Haynes and slightly below the shop manual.The clymer has lots of model specific exploded diagrams, model specific instructions for the repair/overhaul procedures and model specific pictures of the procedures. In fact the ones in the Clymer are the same ones in the Harley shop manual.I pull this more often than the shop book because it usually covers what I need to do in sufficient detail so I can pretend to actually know what I'm doing when I take on a procedure.

If you gonna work on your bike you need one of these.I have referred to it many times over the last 25 years.This is my second manual as the old one was getting pretty ratty.It has lots of photos, is written in text that isn't hard to understand& the wiring diagrams are in color. My old one was black & white.Whether it's a repair or a rebuild it has a wealth of informationto keep you on the right track.

The best part of this manual is the wiring diagram, full color easy to read, then the different specs are OK, but as far as any torque specs, hang it up, if you don't know if the stator is left or right hand thread, your out of luck, take it off and put it on is all this book said, but its a pretty book

It's a Clymer manual and they haven't changed after all these years. My 12 year old takes better pics and draws better graphics. Instructions are very basic and should only be used as a reference with other manuals. Don't rely on this one as your only one.

Only had the manual for a few weeks and it's already come in handy a few times. I have two shovels of different years and the book has seperate charts for each year (when there are differences between years).
