Reader thoughts: This one might be my favorite Narnia book of all. Why? More Aslan. The scenes with him talking to Shasta or Aravis, and I can imagine that their reactions would be how I'd react to God talking with me.And I love long-lost family returning to save the kingdom. (This is what I write, after all.) It's a bit like a retelling of Joseph or Lion King, except Shasta had no idea who he was.Oh, and the horses ran the show. Some authors have talking/magical animal companions, but they never rise above just pets. Paolini's dragons in Eragon have some personality and are almost full characters, but Lewis's horses here and Timothy Zahn's Draycos are clearly their own people, with their own thoughts and motivations. There's one point where Shasta is swinging a sword, and I love that he doesn't immediately become an expert. The ending is well-planned, too.Writer thoughts: One way Zahn brings Draycos to life is by having him learn to read (definitely a non-pet thing), and one way Lewis brings Bree and Hwin to life is by having them confess fears and pride (also definitely a non-pet thing). These authors know how to make their animals into real characters.

Of all of the beloved *The Chronicles of Narnia* books, my favorite since childhood has been *The Horse and His Boy*. The book is the closest to the idea of swash-buckling adventure that any young boy wants to read. Sword fights, knights, and steel-clashing battles are all there, plus intrigue. The story starts with a young boy named Shasta who is doing chores for his fisherman father at their home in a country far south of Narnia. The story is said by Lewis to take place in the time of the reign of the Pevensies, alluded to at the end of *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe*, during what is referred to in the books themselves as the "golden age" of Narnia. One evening, a wealthy Calormene lord (for Calormen was the country in which they lived) came for lodging, and Shasta was turned out with even less supper than he normally received. He was not well-brought up, as his father did not truly loved him, and so he had learned very few good habits. Because of this, just out of boredom, and no sense of guile, he eavesdropped. What he heard told him all he needed to know of his life at that time. Arsheesh was *not* his father. In fact, he didn't love him at all, but was going to sell him into slavery to the Calormene lord.Young Shasta wandered outside and went to the stable area to think. He murmured to the lord's horse that he wished the animal could somehow tell him if he was going to a good master, or one as bad as, or worse than, his "father". He was utterly shocked when the horse said that he could, in fact, talk, and that his lord was a horrible master. The horse went on to expalin that he had been kidnapped as a young foal from his home in the northern country of Narnia where animals were talking Beasts. He despaired of how to escape from his predicament when the horse (who gave his name as Bree) proposed an escape, noticing that Shasta's different looks from others of his countrymen was likely due to his having "northern blood", or being from Narnia or Archenland.During their escape, they eventually meet up with two fellow escapees, Aravis Tarkheena, a nobleman's daughter, and her talking horse Hwin. Aravis was desperate to escape from an arranged murder to an old, evil man who is an assistant to the Tisroc (the lord of the realm).Eventually, they learn of a plot to overthrow the northern countries, and must race against time to save the very countries, and very freedom, for which they are hoping to escape to.Beyond the high sword play and intrigue described, there are also important lessons taught. Above all, these pertain to the foolishness of pride and the sovereignty of God. These are linked together by C. S. Lewis in the story, and for good reason. Pride is, at heart, the elevation of self and denial of God. We decide that we are able to handle things ourselves, and don't need the Lord's help. Even those who *claim* to depend on God, and put him above themselves, often do not. In fact, we often look down on others and treat them as less than ourselves. It might be those who have less money, lower grades, less education, or any other of numerous areas that we see as "deficient".Sometimes, this is not because of the areas above. Sometimes, it is more insidious. We meet folks who are down in their sins, or grumpy, or in the midst of some other deep moral or personal difficulty. We look at them with derision, or sympathy, but false sympathy. Like the Pharisee looking down on the tax collector in our Lord Jesus' parable in Luke 18:9-14. We are glad that we are not as "bad as they are", or we don't "have it as bad as they do". God has not made us suffer like *that*!This is what the characters in the story do to each other. Aravis the Human and Bree the Horse, look down on Shasta and Hwin. Shasta is of poor birth, and Hwin is not a great "warhorse" as Bree is. The ideas and views of Shasta and Hwin are viewed with contempt by Aravis and Bree, even when they are the views that are the ones that will work best.In the end, they see how they are not all that special in and of themselves, but special enough in the way that God, or Aslan, has chosen for them to be. Their pride and disdain for those of less supposed "nobility" or "worth" than themselves is laid to naught, and they are happier for it. They rejoice at the great plan of Aslan the Lion. Moreover, Shasta finds that the hard life he has suffered is something he has every reason to be upset about, but NOT to be bitter about. He has walked on the path that Aslan has chosen for him. The path that lead to him being the hero of the story.I have to admit that I did learn from this story myself. Indeed, I can see myself in all of the characters. I see my pride in Bree, but oddly mixed with Hwin's timidiy, and Shasta's self-doubt and self-pity. I am proud too often, but it is all bluster. When provoked, I am crushed like Hwin is, and I am filled with anger and self-pity as Shasta is. I feel angry for what I go through and have gone through, but I don't do what I need to go do get myself out of the situation. I am not even where Shasta is. My shyness, timidity, belief in my low worth, and other factors have put me here. I can see all of these fictional persons in my own self, and see a way out. With effort, I can put God first, put myself after Him where HE SEES FIT, and then, with His help, *do* what is necessary to better the situation. Before I close up this review. I want to deal with the perennial allegation that C. S. Lewis was being racist in this book. There are many arguments to point to against this ridiculous charge, but I will just point out the obvious fact that Aravis was a hero and racists don't do that, and moreover, part of the charge is purposeful dishonesty in support of relativism. Even those who acknowledge that Lewis was not racist by any standard defintion, still try to label him as such for daring to say that that countries of Narnia and Archenland, which are like the Christian countries he was used to in Great Britain and her one-time empire, are better culturally than other countries. This recognition that Lewis believed a Christian culture to be superior makes him a racist, in this pathetic reckoning. Well, I'm sorry, but if preferring one's culture to another, or one's country to another, or one's religion to another is racist, then man is naturally racist. He was a Christian, and an Englishman. As such, he favored the ideals and values inherent in these two characteristics of his own self.So for those who honestly think he was a racist, then the evidence is easily there that he wasn't. For those who think that he is a racist for viewing a Christian culture as superior than others, well, they are not worth the time. Ignore their baiting remarks, pray for them, and treat them kindly.*The Horse and His Boy* has it all. Sword-fighting, action, adventure, good moral lessons and application are all there for the reader to enjoy and learn from. A superb book, and (though others may disagree with me on this) the very *best* of the seven *Chronicles of Narnia* books.Highly Recommended.

Bought the audio version to listen to with my 4 boys and wife on road trip to grandparents at Christmas time. Amazing how quiet the car ride was with all paying attention to the entertaining voice work of the narrator. First of all --- it's a great story (book 3 of Chronicles of Narnia) best of all --- No arguing or bickering over the video games from the back seats....pricelessMade the entire trip more enjoyable and me and the wife may have enjoyed it even more than our kids did. Highly recommend

A young boy named Shasta and a talking horse he calls Bree run away toward Narnia. They are joined along the way by another talking horse and a young girl. When they bump into a group of Narnians, Shasta is mistaken for a prince. After learning information about an impending attack, Shasta sets out to warn those in danger. Most of the book was interesting and I wanted to know what was going to happen. Parts dragged along. On occasion I just didn’t care about the characters I should have. I found Aslan to be annoyingly preachy on occasion, like Lewis tried too hard to make it obvious that he was the Christ character. The Horse and His Boy is worth reading once, but it’s probably not going to be one I ever reread again.

so Narnia isn't all about Peter and Susan and Edmund and Lucy, is it? I had read these books when I was younger but mostly forgot them except of course the lion, the witch and the wardrobe until the recent movies came out. this one is and the magicians nephew are just as good as the others and I wonder why they weren't made into movies. it explains a little about what happened during the reign of high king Peter before returning to earth and I think also sets up the war between Narnia and the Calormenes which is talked about in the next book Prince Caspian. speaking of which, I'm going to start that one right now! this is a fine book for kids and grown ups alike!

Lewis' best Narnia book, hands-down! I've often wondered why I love this book best (and I've read the whole series several times and The Horse and His Boy several more times). It's very hard to pin down, but one strength is that it is all set in-world, letting us get to know the settings and characters more intimately, perhaps. It's a satisfying coming-of-age story, and has many small, satisfying details scattered throughout like chocolate chips in a cookie: descriptions of sumptuous meals or of the sea in the distance or of a difficult gallop across the desert. The Pevensie children have fun cameos.Such a fun, satisfying read!

The Highly Sensitive Child: Helping Our Children Thrive When The World Overwhelms Them

From Publishers Weekly

As a highly sensitive person (HSP) herself and a psychotherapist, Aron is in a strong position to provide guidance to parents who are raising highly sensitive children (HSCs), and provides here a wealth of useful suggestions and case studies. The author, who has studied and written about what she calls "high sensitivity" (The Highly Sensitive Person), states that this is a personality trait that occurs in 15% to 20% of the population. Although HSCs tend to be "empathetic, smart, intuitive, careful and conscientious," they are also easily overstimulated and require informed parenting in order to prevent temper tantrums, stress illnesses and the avoidance of pleasurable group activities. Aron offers helpful advice that will assist both nonsensitive and highly sensitive parents through all stages of their child's development from infancy to adolescence. For example, since HSCs have great difficulty with change, it is necessary to prepare them gently so that they do not feel powerless during transitions. According to the author, there are four basic strategies that will help an HSC to become a happy adult: parents should foster their child's self-esteem, try to reduce the feelings of shame HSCs may develop because they are different, employ only mild positive discipline and learn how to talk positively to teachers and friends about their HSC so that interactions will be productive.Copyright 2002 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From the Inside Flap

The bestselling author and psychologist whose books have topped 240,000 copies in print now addresses the trait of “high sensitivity” in children–and offers a breakthrough parenting guidebook for highly sensitive children and their caregivers. With the publication of The Highly Sensitive Person, Elaine Aron became the first person to identify the inborn trait of “high sensitivity” and to show how it affects the lives of those who possess it. Up to 20 percent of the population is born highly sensitive, and now in The Highly Sensitive Child, Aron shifts her focus to highly sensitive children, who share the same characteristics as highly sensitive adults and thus face unique challenges as they grow up.

As an HSP myself, reading "The Highly Sensitive Child" offered invigorating insight into the mind and heart of my oldest daughter, who is also highly sensitive. For many years, she and I have butted heads over nearly everything, and after reading this book, I was both humbled and empowered to reach her in a new way.Dr. Elaine Aron's practical tips in each chapter, particularly breaking down the developmental age groups, were refreshing, clear, and easy to implement. My husband and I have been discussing, at length, how we can foster our daughter's gifts in a more meaningful way and reframe her sensitivity as neutral, rather than the perceived "bad" that the world defines it as.My favorite aspect of the book included recognizing how highly sensitive children require lots of rest, breaks, and sleep; that they thrive within a routine and usually need help transitioning with life changes; how to help them cope with verbal or social aggression at school; and ways to facilitate conversation with older children or role play with younger ones. Our daughter was bullied in preschool, and my husband and I approached her teacher, to no avail. Had I read this book beforehand, I would have been able to offer concrete solutions on how to understand and help HSCs with the "teacher tips" at the end of the book.Having read "The Highly Sensitive Person" before "The Highly Sensitive Child," I would "highly" recommend both books, especially if a parent suspects that his/her child may be highly sensitive, as well. Both together offer a full picture into understanding oneself and children who may have been labeled "shy" (which is situational), but who are actually just sensitive.A great read for parents and teachers alike.

I bought this book to help my granddaughter, who is the spitting image of me. As I read, I was struck that not only is my granddaughter a highly sensitive child, she looks exactly like her grandmother who is finding out she is also the same. It explains so much to me and now I can see things clearer and I know why my granddaughter and I are so close. We understand each other. I also see my job as educating her very busy parents, who find some of her behavior bizarre and interpret her as being 'difficult' or 'pretending'. It is our task to help raise her to not only cope with a wildly stimulating and often crude world, but to flourish at the same time. A worthy read.

If you are maybe questioning if you have a HSP child then buy this book. If you know you have an HSP child then definitely buy this book! It's hard. It's hard to understand where your child is coming from sometimes, hard to know what to do and I tend to be hard on myself. All that to say this book gives a lot of good insight and suggestions on how to help your child in ways they will respond to.

From birth, my son has been very sensitive and though I had no issue with this, I was constantly receiving unwanted advice/comments about his temperament from family members. This book has offered me insight on how to handle the critics!

There are many helpful concepts in this book. I now understand my daughter better and am hopefully a better parent for it. My only complaint is that I wish there were a more comprehensive section on school stress.

This is a great book for anybody that is HS or has an HSC. I bought a second copy and donated it to my sons school to help them better understand what it's like for him.

Was almost done reading when someone was looking at it and lost it! Still upset about that. haha. So definitely had to buy a new one and well, getting more out of it reading again! Perfect book for explaining what a highly sensitive person is. It was like reading my own journal from childhood and set me free of false perceptions about myself and my baby.

Very well written book by an expert in the field who also happens to be highly sensitive-so she knows the subject personally as well as experimentally. Does not require technical expertise to read and understand, but very well documented for those who want that detail. Book written in 2002, but recent editions have an extensive forward/chapter that summarizes recent research and how to approach these kids. First chapter contains a list of yes/no questions that help you decide if your child fits into this category. This book was a real eye-opener !

The Orchid Thief by Susan OrleanShe travels to FL when she reads of the arrest of John LaRoche. He and Seminole tribe members stole orchids from protected state property. Some people are obsessed with these plants. She follows them and learns all about the plants. He had hoped to clone and sell the plants. When in FL we had visited the world's largest orchid place in Kissimmee so I had wanted to read about this story.Liked the places the reporter traveled to obtain information about varieties of the orchids. Liked how the process is described on how to mutant and graft the plants.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

In 1994, John Laroche and three Seminole Indian men, were caught leaving a Florida Wildlife Preserve with bags full of Ghost orchid (Polyrrhiza lindenii) specimens. They challenged the arrest on the basis of a law allowing Native tribes to violate the endangered species act. Susan Orleans, a columnist for The New Yorker went to Florida to get the story. She befriended the weirdly charismatic Laroche, gained entry to the bizarre world of orchid collectors, and ultimately expanded the article into a book (and subsequently a movie).Ms. Orlean is as much part of this story as anyone else: she's there, she's experiencing this, and her thoughts and curiosity take us through lessons in history, evolution, geology, botany, and current orchid mania - the characters, the controversies, and the competition. Her style includes much wit and humor which makes for somewhat light reading and a few laugh out loud lines.Front and center are orchids - "a jewel of a flower on a haystack of a plant" - so evolved and diversified they've become "the biggest flowering plant family on earth because each orchid species has made itself irresistible." Orchids are "ancient, intricate living things that have adapted to every environment on earth." There are tens of thousands of varieties, and more being created by natural as well as man-made hybridization virtually every day. Orchids often outlive human beings. In fact, orchids can theoretically live forever, since they have no natural enemies.Orlean describes some extreme personalities of orchid people as an amusing side story. Some orchid owners designate a person as an "orchid heir" in their wills since the owners expect that their precious orchids will outlive them. Another reviewer commented: “This book will make you feel like the very picture of placid normalcy when compared to orchid growers.”“Laroche loved orchids, but I came to believe he loved the difficulty and fatality of getting them almost as much as the flowers themselves.” Laroche is a kindred spirit of those fellow orchid hunters of the 19th century who rescued fragile flowers in the midst of an erupting volcano in the Phillipines and a revolution in Columbia. An orchid from Burma was auctioned off in London “still attached to the human skull on which it had been found.”Southern Florida is an underlying theme. Many of us remember the famous land-scams of the 1950s and 60s. “ Florida land is elastic: you can make more of it.” (pg 122) Any dank Florida cypress swamp can be drained and remade… to look like a Tuscan village or an English town. Interesting characters appear every few pages: Snake Boy, frog poachers, Miss Seminole, Lee More the Adventurer, the Ghost Grader, Lord Mansfield, etc.The Fakahatchee Swamp is home of many wild orchids, Orlean comments wryly when plunging into brackish water up to the waist, and having to toe around for submerged alligators on the squishy bottom, "I hate being in a swamp with machete-wielding convicts."Indian rights and the Florida Seminole tribe and business interests are another side story. The legal similarities between Chief Billie and the panther and Laroche and the ghost orchids have a fine distinction. But the orchids! My thoughts are like the authors: “It’s like an explosion in a paint factory…” The flowers are interesting but the plant looks dead. “These flowers are poetic.” They are all so different. This one is speckled. “Here’s a weird shape. Look at this long tube.” The variety is overwhelming.

Just awesome! This book came onto my radar because of its starring role in Charlie Kaufman's 2002 film Adaptation. There are four main reasons this book is great:1. the primary subject John Laroche (to whom the book's title infamously but non-exclusively refers) is an extraordinarily interesting person2. the author's description of Laroche's personality as well as of her interactions/dialogue with him are amazingly written and 100% engrossing3. the secondary subject of the book is not orchids like you might expect, it is actually the state of Florida, and the author's descriptions/musings on Florida itself - its strangeness, contrasted nature, and uniqueness in particular - are wonderful4. there is an underlying theme that ties the whole book together and arises naturally from Laroche, the other orchid collectors/thieves the author meets, as well as from the author herself: it is the nature of passion; and as a result the book is brimming with psychological insights and flashes of wisdomCharlie Kaufman realized that this was more than just a book about flowers when he read it, and you will realize it too when you read it. Personally I could care less about flowers, but the flower that John Laroche was so passionate about - the ghost orchid - plays such an interesting and mysterious role in the book and is so elusive and sought after by even the author herself that by the end of the book I wanted to see one too!I highly recommend you read the book and/or watch the movie (in either order), as this is a book wholly deserving of its starring movie role. Unlike any book/movie experience I've ever had.

I loved Susan Orleans style of writing and her descriptions of places, situations and people - she really brought it to life. I now know more about orchids than I ever thought I would. That part got a bit tedious at times but I stuck with it and most of it was really interesting. There are people addicted to orchids. People who steal orchids. Orchids can be worth A LOT of money. There are hundreds and hundreds of different kinds of orchids. I love the way she wrote about the character of David Laroche. I read this because I knew the movie, "Adaptation" was based on this book. Loosely based. It was REALLY interesting to see what the screenwriter did. It barely ANYTHING like the book. I loved the ending. I also lived in Florida for three years and it all takes place in Florida so I found it interesting to hear Ms. Orleans talk about these places. I got a bit bogged down by all the details of orchid growing, the orchid business, etc. but it's worth it to persevere.

It's hard for me to believe that the two people who wrote negative reviews actually read the book. The studies seem very well done, the conclusions solid. The ADA states that mercury is safe; the evidence indicates otherwise. I can understand that dentists would be reluctant to accept this; it must be very difficult to consider the possibility (and it seems a hell of a lot more than possible) that you have spent your life and livelihood doing immense damage to people by placing amalgam fillings in their mouths. The evidence shows 1) mercury leaks 24/7 from amalgam fillings, 2) the mercury collects throughout the body, 3) mercury damages the immune system, 4) mercury is very likely the cause, or at the very least a contributing cause, of multiple poorly understood human diseases, such as MS, ALS, CFIDS, fibromyalgia, arthritis, autism, Alzheimer's and many others. No wonder animals don't get these diseases. They don't have amalgam fillings or other heavy mercury exposure. Think about this, folks. Does it make sense that the same amalgam placed in your mouth must, when removed from your mouth, be disposed of as toxic waste? The only safe place for amalgam is in your mouth? Next time you break an old thermometer, don't bother dealing with the mercury as hazardous waste. Just put it in your mouth; it'll be quite safe there :)

It's frustrating that otherwise intelligent people ie. dentists, believe that by mixing the most toxic metal known (mercury) with other toxic metals (copper, silver, zinc, tin) and then placing this mixture in people's teeth, results in a harmless non-corroding filling. Yet dental guidelines insist that scrap dental amalgam is mixed in airtight containers and disposed carefully so as not to contaminate the environment. So what is it - safe or not safe ?That mercury is there 24x7 in your mouth, leaking into your intestines. Yet we are told to limit our consumption of tunafish to no more than once a week due to mercury contamination. Who are the lying quacks ? Go figure.

As a practicing dentist, I am aware that silver fillings have been around for 150+ years. During that time, people are living LONGER. But, it's not due to the mercury OR the silver fillings. In fact, people eat more seafood than ever and get more mercury that way than from silver fillings. Finally, the plastic replacement fillings leach out formaldehyde over time. The only true replacement (if needed) is gold or porcelain at $800-or-so a tooth. I have silver fillings in my mouth. There is no free mercury. They are safe. It's sad that a book like this serves one purpose: financial gain for its publisher and author.- Dr. Waters

This book has been an important addition to my training toolbox. While I felt I did some handling and husbandry type conditioning when my papillon was a puppy, I have not been good keeping up with it...I didn't have any formal instruction at the time...all I did, which wasn't bad-but didn't progress in an organized way (as this book helps you do), was give her treats when I had to do her nails or brush her teeth, etc. I think, at most, she learned to tolerate grooming. She is now five and recently had an infected tooth removed. I was determined to get back on track with her cooperative care and help her love her grooming time. The first step involves helping the dog love their grooming space. My dog will now be found sitting on her grooming chair, waiting. I can do her nails, teeth and some light trimming all on my own now (I used to need my husband to hold her). I love how the book shows how to let the dog opt in for grooming...she always has a choice to leave. You will need some patience and it is recommended to have several short sessions a day...which has been easy to fit in.

Deb Jones is an amazing teacher and her newest book clearly demonstrates that. She has an uncanny ability to share her wealth of knowledge in a way that is simple and easy to follow for absolutely anybody. This book is neatly organized into clear and easy to follow steps for teaching your dog (or any critter) how to willingly participate in routine care such as bathing, brushing, nail clipping, vet visits, giving eye/ear drops, etc. If you follow the steps outlined, you and your dog will be happy for it.With Deb's book, you and your dog will have far less stress (or none at all) when it's time to clip nails or get a bath or attend to minor medical needs. It will help you to help your dog live a healthier stress free life.Every vet, groomer, trainer, and boarding facility should have a copy on their shelf. This book will be life changing for pets everywhere! This will be among the best purchases you can make for your dog's sake!

Such an important concept for anyone who cares for animals! I've been working on cooperative care with my pets and am amazed by how much it has improved their quality of life. The author does a fantastic job in this book of breaking it down into a simple, step-by-step process. She describes challenges you might encounter and walks you through options for overcoming them — she's honest and realistic and helps you feel like you can fix things you were afraid you'd screwed up for life. Looking forward to sharing this book with others.

A truly well written easy to read book, using positive training methods to help you teach your dog to actually enjoy husbandry chores … grooming, nail trimming, teeth brushing, vet care and the myriad of other handling necessary to care for your dog. The text is supplemented with numerous photos that make it even easier to understand, and check lists to help you along the way. I highly recommend it for all dog owners, new and experienced. Your relationship with your dog can be naught but strengthened by following through with the training.

This is the book I've been waiting for (without knowing it) since pets came into my lives decades ago. Like all normal pet owners, the vet has handed me a bottle of ear drops or eye drops and then come home to the amazing issue of actually implementing the treatment. I discovered I'm not strong enough to hold a 3 1/2 pound puppy firmly enough for forced nail trims. If they can take a blood sample from a tiger force free, surely I can do better with my dogs. What's a better way? Can it be positive and force free? Deb Jones walks through step by step. Her methods are humane and easily implemented by even the most clumsy of us. The techniques build our relationship rather than having the dog run for the bushes when I think the word "bath". The book makes checklists that I can hang by my grooming area (I love checklists!!). My dog says thanks! (and so do I).

As a dog trainer, incorporating these skills with my clients is as important as teaching come when called. Deb Jones has put together a wonderful collection of easy to do exercises that will help your pet live a life with less fear, stress and anxiety about necessary procedures that keep a lot of people from taking their dog to the vet.

I have taken Deb’s cooperative care course two times and find this book to be outstanding! Clear, concise and thorough instructions. Deb breaks down the steps necessary to having a dog willingly participate in its care. I know that my dogs and the dogs I work with will benefit from following the steps. I will be referring to this book often and definitely using it in my classes teaching young adults about caring for dogs.

Deb Jones explanations and check lists makes it easy for even the average dog guardian to create a low stress and workable situation for husbandry and vet care. She emphasises the patience needed and breaks down each step in an easy to understand way. If you follow the book from front to back you will have a pup that not only tolerates husbandry and vet care tasks, but possibly with enjoy it.I will be recommending this book to all my training clients.

Soccer Shooting & Finishing: A Step-by-Step Guide on How to Score (Understand Soccer Book 2) by Dylan JosephThis book starts with the offer of a free chart showing different strategies of shooting forms and is a super printout to take with you wherever you go.I had read and loved the previous book in this series and enjoyed it as it taught me so much about soccer. I am not a player just enjoy watching others compete and I like to know how things are done. This one is more in depth showing how to shoot and the advantages of different positions and parts of your legs to use. There is a pyramid chart showing an individual soccer players mindset. Each of the shooting strategies are detailed and explained so anybody can understand them. Also it teaches you how to keep practicing til it's second nature and when to use the strategy. Many other tips along the way telling you to watch youtube videos of other players and how they have perfected the shot. There are also so many more videos and other tips on the authors webpage.Be sure when you visit to sign up for free items and to be one of the first to know of another book and you can vote on what you'd like to see the author write about for his next book. Can't wait to read the next in the series-these can be read as stand alones.Index of terms used are described in the back of the book.Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

As a soccer player I've found my self struggling to produce in the final third of the field mainly because I freeze up or take too long to decide what I want to do and in result the play goes on without me instead of me dictating the play. This book really helped me change that. The author covers so many different scenarios you may go through as well as various types to approach each one which will help build your confidence as you approach the opponents goal with or without the ball. I believe the best method to build confidence is to have many different methods to approach a single scenario and this is exactly what that book does. Not only does it inform you of the various ways to approach each scenario, it also develops and furthers your ability to decide which is the most appropriate to use.I love the description that the author provides when he's discussing the various types of ways to strike a ball and its helped me develop my own mental cues to make sure i'm on point with my warming up before a game or in training in general. The initial copy of this series of books I received as a gift but every volume since I've purchased immediately because, to be frank, i'm hooked on the authors writing style. He keeps you engaged and has a really good ability to articulate difficult topics. He makes it easy for me to picture myself performing actions, and as many professionals have said before Visualization is a key component to translating practice to in-game opportunities.I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is the second book by Dylan Joseph and he really knows his stuff!!! Dylan Joseph truly knows his soccer skills and is able to communicate his successful training approaches with appropriate dialogue that patents, coaches, and kids can easily understand. This book highlights the importance of shooting with a better technique and finishing to score more goals than you are now. Having played soccer from childhood well into my adult years, I truly wish that I had this book years ago to transform my skillset into a phenomenal player! I would highly recommend anyone to buy this book and check out the extra information Dylan Joseph has to offer inside and on his website.

Great read and very informative on the art of finishing in soccer, a forgotten art in the United States. Excellent for coaches and players from youth to high school age players and coaches.

The book is a good resource for any soccer player looking to up their game. I not only saw immediate benefits in the shooting chapters but even just in the overall approach to ball handling that the author lays out. The book reads more like a personal trainer coaching you through a private soccer lesson than an academic debate on proper foot technique. Must have for any serious soccer player and with the bonus shooting tables as a reference the book is a no-brainer - just buy it.

I’ve happened to read a couple and of Dylan’s books now and he knows his stuff. One particularly thing I like from this book is the ability to reference back to it with ease using the free PDF shooting and finishing chart.Great quick technique snippets for some shots such as the outside of the foot shot or bent/curved shot. The book itself goes well into depth but awesome that Dylan provides easy to reference PDFs!

The author states that this book is 99% geared to the males, and the information provided in the book will be the difference in "getting laid or not". I suspect most of the ladies (the author refers to them as "girls" through out the book) will be put off by the tone and the language of the book. The tips themselves were not as terrible as I expected after the six page introduction. They did not cover many of the things I would expect a good kisser to do but most of what was captured on 18 pages that these 5 tips took were okay. Since I am not a teenage boy I was disappointed - no new tricks, and many of the old tricks I expected were missing. For a target audience of the very young inexperienced males who have not kissed anyone this primer is ok, for others - keep looking.Ali Julia review

Kissing is a super informative guide with unique essential tips on how to give a super kiss, one you will be remembered for. How kissing stimulates the brain making us happier and satisfied. Physical attraction can definitely be the beginning to a relationship but it will go no where without a grade A kiss. The author has done a great job in pointing out five very important steps in achieving such an effective kiss, it will drive your partner nuts. Loved this book!

This book is great. I hope I got this earlier in my life. It could have been more helpful. It is still great to improve my confidence. It all started with a kiss.It will not turn out to be a major turn off anymore. Now I know the sexiness in kissing. I will make a great impression next time. Knowing the do's and don'ts are great.

Spring came and so romantic. BUT this book is not about that. I really had no idea about what kissing can something not know. But in this book I found a lot about what are kiss and what to do to make the kiss memorable for a lifetime. Of course this book is more interested in Teens, but adults will have a lot to learn.

I just got bored and I tried to look for a book that can remove my boredom and while looking I saw this book that caught my attention. I got interested reading this book because this is my first time seeing a book that teaches how to kiss a girl. The information I saw here is good some are new and some are very common but if you don’t know how to kiss I think this book will help you a lot. I found some errors in this book but it is good.

We all know how kissing is important in every love relationship. But not all of us (especially younger generation) know how to do it properly. By reading this book, one can build very good kissing skills which will surely improve his/her love life. The book is well written, in simple and easy to read language. It is short, but it has all the details it needs to be a great guide.

Did not get anything useful in this book. This is probably useful for virgin teens who are trying to get ideas about kissing.

This book is perfect for everyone. If you are begginer in kissing, that's ok, this book will teach you. But if you professional, there are a lot of tricks that make you even better in kising
