pretty good read. Learned a lot about something I didn't know.well researched and written.But, I don't buy off on the mystery solved part.
The author by the title wanted to sell her book, it was terrible! Totally ignored present evidence, and her solution was absurd. Pure marketing trash! Would like money back; though it came as a gift.
Don't read this book if you are expecting to learn the solution to the Money Pit! But if you believe that earthquakes and land subsidence could have created the 100 plus foot deep, cribbed hole with oak platforms and other barriers along the way, well, you'd beleive anything so go ahead and read it.The statement that the mystery is solved is ridiculous. Probably made up to sell the book. Don't look here if you want to learn the answer to the money pit!Also, I did not need to get all those lessons in naval stores - hemp, flax, masts, spars, planking, tar and pitch, what they are, how they are made, etc. 30 pages out of 121. I think it was just added to try and get enough words to make a book.
I'm sure there were tar kilns on Oak Island, but the evidence that the Money Pit was one of them is thin. The geological/earthquake speculation really weakens her argument. Worth a read for cheap.
I have studied and reasearched Oak Island for about forty years. I commend Ms. Steele for not following tradition and accepting the treasure theory. There is no treasure on Oak island but Ms. Steele has not discovered the solution. There are too many claims that are not consistent with known facts about the project. I also found the book difficult to read. There was too much about the history of naval stores and a disjointed description of her theory. The graphics were almost impossible to read. A solution to the mystery does exist but this is not it. I cannot recommend this book..
It was a book to read but one I can't say I would/wouldn't recommend. The author did their homework referencing.

Treasure seekers would do well to read this book before spending another dime on Oak Island digs. Ms. Steele's solution seems to be so much more than a theory that I can't help believing she has nailed it. The material presented here is well researched and backed up by printed documents from the era in which the original pits were dug as well as supporting evidence to explain the presence of other artifacts, stone markings and tree carvings found on the island. Was there treasure on the island at one time? At this point, it's anyone's guess. After reading this book and 3 others about Oak Island, my feeling is that if there had been buried treasure it is long gone, but it was certainly never placed in the aptly named 'money pit' which has absorbed the fortunes of so many with no return on their investment. Ms. Steele's carefully researched explanation for the existence of the pit of many layers with tunnels reaching out toward the sea is completely believable.
