This is a rock solid book on LINQ. It starts with an introduction that tells us why we need LINQ. The introduction also includes a ton of samples that show the different features of LINQ the rest of the book digs into.This book is packed full of examples. If you can't find what you need in this book, you won't find it. The book covers all the basics like LINQ to Objects, LINQ to SQL, LINQ to Entities, LINQ to DataSet, and LINQ to XML.It then goes beyond that and covers Expression Trees, Parallelism, Multitier Solutions, and Data Binding.My favorite part of the book is the coverage of expression trees. They did a great job of covering them in great detail.The best part about all the code samples in the book is that they are available for download in a very organized and usable download.I have been dragging this book around in my backpack for months. If you are doing anything with LINQ, this book is one you want by your side. I highly recommend it.

This is what a technical book should be. Perhaps it isn't a 'classic,' but it is clear and well crafted, well organized, and gets right to the point. I'm also convinced that the authors know their SQL very well, so I feel like they are very worthy teachers of data access; in fact, I really wish they had gone off on a few more SQL tangents just because I trust the depth they bring.It doesn't put on kid gloves, though, so if you are new to LINQ you might start with the Magennis book and develop some comfort with LINQ to Objects first, just to have a foothold to work from, which will increase your comfort with the implementation facets that support LINQ, such as extension classes, generic classes, object initializers, and anonymous types.

I've been using LINQ for about a year (mostly LINQ-to-objects and LINQ-to-Xml) but recently started a new project using extensive LINQ-to-SQL. The book begins by laying a solid, easy to understand foundation, explaining the core concepts in just the right amount of detail, beforing building-up to more complicated topics. Reading this book helped me finally understand LINQ in ways that I could only guess-at before (like, what really is the difference between IEnumerable and IQueryable). Aside from one or two very minor errors, this is probably one of the best technical books I've read in a long time and I would recommend it for anyone wanting to truly understand LINQ inside-&-out.

Very good book on understanding linq and also how it works internally via expression trees.

I wanted to understand the skills needed to develop a data layer for our company. I am a SQL Server and Oracle developer working mostly in the development of triggers, procedures and functions within the database. I wanted to make the transition into a C# coder to expand my skill level. This book did a nice job of explaining the topics and techniques used for my learning.I initially tried to jump right into the N-Tier chapters, which is what I wanted to learn, but found that I needed to go through the earlier chapters that lay the groundwork of understanding for the later more complex chapters.I would recommend this to a new learner of the LINQ to SQL and LINQ to Entities topics.

This book was crucial for me in teaching myself LINQ. I had to learn LINQ fast as part of an app I was building. There is a limited amount of information on the web and most of it really didn't apply to what I needed.

I read this book many years ago when it first came out to my newborn son. we just got done reading it again and I still love it just as much. There is something magical about the way Carl Hiaasen writes. He can capture the minds and hearts of people of all ages. Of all of his books, this one is hands down, my favorite. The important message of conservation he delivers is not delivered in a boring run of the mill way. The characters are vibrant and fun to learn about and you can watch the face of your child change from happy to worried to thrilled right along with the events in this book. I think this is an excellent book for kids and adults.

* SPOILER * I discuss part of the book in this review. Don’t keep reading if you don’t want to know more.I liked most of the story but I guess I’m tired of the stereotype of the big dumb jocks beating up the little nerdy kid story line. And not sure how I feel about Roy setting up Dana so that he goes to juvie. I don’t want my kids reading this for that reason. Maybe I’m just feeling extra sensitive about kids who have been born into crappy families but I felt bad for Dana. It made it hard for me to enjoy the rest of the story knowing Roy set him up. Not that Dana’s behavior was exemplary at all but setting him up where he ends up at juvenile detention seemed a bit extreme.It was also confusing to me that Roy would try to find a way for his head and heart to come together to get help for the owls but didn’t use the same logic when dealing with Dana. And somehow his parents never found out about it either... hmmm. Honestly, I kept expecting him to tell his parents what he knew about Dana and have them help him intervene somehow to make it better. He told them about Beatrice’s situation so why not Dana’s? Total disconnect for me.And maybe there was no other way but I felt like it was a missed opportunity for Roy and his parents to not have that conversation together.Otherwise I liked the book. I really enjoyed the first half of the book a lot. But the second half was a let down for me.

Originally i picked up "Razor Girl" and thoroughly enjoyed it. So I ordered his four best sellers.I should have been a bit more diligent. The four I ordered [SCAT, CHOMP, HOOT and FLUSH] are all "young adult books".I have now read all four and they were very good. I am now passing them on to my grand children. Good plots and characters. Great messages and all very good reads.

What a fun book. Great literature for avid upper elementary and middle school readers. Even a fun and quick read for adults. Well written mystery with plenty of positive messages for young people. Highly recommend this book.

It’s YA, but it’s written by Carl Hiaasen, so it’s a great story. Memorable characters, good story line, humor, and delightful to read/listen to. Reminds me of some of Dave Berry’s books. I’m in my 70’s, so am not a young adult, but this book should appeal to everyone.

My 10 year old daughter loves this book so much she has read it countless times. There are some themes for discussing with your kiddo (homelessness of teenage boy and abusive relationships), but the book was a great read. I also liked that it brought awareness to taking care of nature and respecting endangered species. Great buy.

Excellent audio book read by Chad Lowe, Rob's brother. He does a great job of adding character to the reading. I used this in my 6th grade class and they enjoyed it. Overall, well worth the price.

This is a sweet book. My heart bleeds for little Mullet Hands and for all the kids with useless parents. The contrast between Roy's life filled with loving events and two parents who adore him sharply contrasts with the lives of the bullies that he faces. Kids joining together to save little burrowing owls provides a quick summation after a glance into complicated lives of these Florida kids. Unfortunately, the kids warped by their strange parents remain unchanged by anything or anyone and go on to continue as older versions of themselves.

Highly recommend these books for tweens. We have all that he wrote for kids, hoping for more. There might be minor cuss words-depends on how you feel. I read these aloud to my son, we both enjoy them. It's always interesting to read books based on areas you are familiar with.

Laura Ingalls Wilder's books tell a story that is both true and misleading, the product of a strange and tortured collaboration between Laura and her daughter Rose. Told in full, it would have been a tale full of misery, mistakes and tragedy, relieved by stoic endurance and loyalty. It wouldn't have been published. Wilder struggled to turn her family's pioneer story into the inspiring, heart-warming, heroic tale that fills the Little House books. Caroline Fraser adds context beyond the much-discussed question of the true authorship of the books, placing the pioneer epic in the larger frame of conflicts between settlers and Indians, and North and South, then exploring the later role of the pioneer story in the politics and myth-making of the nation and the world. The reaction against Wilder's books that has led to her name being taken off at least one school named in her honor shocks the books' fans, but Fraser shows how Rose used the stories for her own political purposes, and the US promoted them as propaganda after World War II. Wilder herself slanted the books to bolster the image of the settlers as an ideal model for America. And yet, Fraser's affection for the books and their author shows through her admission of their myopic worldview, omissions, and outright fabrications. Her sympathies clearly lie with Laura rather than with Rose, and she provides evidence against later claims that Rose was the true author of the books.The surprises of the book for me are in the details of Rose's life and politics and how she leveraged Laura's books to further her Libertarian views, even beyond her death.My own grandmother was born in a log cabin in Wisconsin, and she married my grandfather, whose family homesteaded not far from Walnut Grove. Another grandfather was born in a sod house in Nebraska. My mother grew up in circumstances as difficult as much that Wilder described. When Wilder presents the pioneer story while minimizing or totally ignoring the plight of the displaced and murdered Native Americans, she is telling the tale as my family would have told it. Fraser expands the view to encompass what we must admit if we are honest: our success and wealth were built on the suffering of real people. These sections of Fraser's book aren't comfortable to read, but they are necessary to put the controversy about Wilder's books in context.Fraser doesn't hide her own political leanings, as she weaves her rejection of Ayn Rand's philosophy into the discussion of Rose's friendship with Rand and Rose's editing of Laura's later books to introduce Randian themes. I found that enlightening and interesting. Some people won't agree.Read this book if you are a fan of Wilder's books. If you know Wilder only from the TV series, read Wilder's books first. (I thoroughly enjoyed Fraser's take-down of the TV series, which I never saw but did read about.)I enjoyed Prairie Fire. It didn't make me dislike Wilder's books, or even have a lower opinion of Laura - - though it certainly didn't make me like Rose. I'm giving it four rather than five stars because of a little discomfort with how openly the author's biases, most of which I actually share, are expressed.

I have no argument with Fraser's research skills and that is why I gave her two stars rather than one. However, I find huge fault with the very premise of her research. How convenient for her to assail the Ingalls' family for their lack of "politically correct" sensibilities when it was our greatest American President, Abraham Lincoln who urged American settlers to go West with the Homestead Act. This book inspired the American Library Association to strip the name "Laura Ingalls Wilder" from its award, renaming it the Children's Literature Legacy Award. And why? Because of the "inconsistency between Wilder’s legacy and its core values of inclusiveness, integrity and respect, and responsiveness through an award that bears Wilder’s name." It is a little incongruous that any body would apply 21st century values to those of the 19th century, but worse than that, Laura clearly was the most inclusive of individuals who discussed her sadness over the lot of the American Indians. Whom next does Fraser wish to destroy? Would anyone like to do a deep dive on her? I hope so!

I am a Wilder fan, having visited her home twice, taught her books many times, and been quotingly familiar with them since the age of seven. Every time I read any of them to a child, I am still charmed by the truly mesmerizing prose. Whoever spun them, Laura or Rose, they are timeless and a joy. I have also read all their other published writings and assorted articles and biographies. I know the subject.This book is long, with nearly a hundred pages of small print endnotes, to boot. I devoured it all. It starts strong, giving an account of the Minnesota Massacre, alluded to in one book where Ma quickly turns the conversation to protect little ears--smart move, Ma Ingalls. This author gives us all the back stories and national context we as adult readers want and need. She does explore the push, pull, and tug between Laura and Rose.After all this valuable light brought to our subject, which is a rocky life covering nearly a century, one comes away, if anything, even more impressed by the resilience of Laura Ingalls. Someway, she did pen her stories into the very best "good parts version" of a life journey that was decidedly mixed. And she did it, in league with her daughter, beginning in later life, in a farmhouse, on Big Chief nickel tablets that are a handicap to write on, besides.For the real fans among us, and there are many, this book is a delight, even as our hearts are wrenched by the whole truth. One may not read it fast, but one will read it, and learn a lot of American history into the bargain.

It is a basic, enjoyable read for those new to cell phones which is directed to new Galaxy 8(+) user(s). I just knew the basics about the phone and how to use it. In plain language, this book explains most every task I wanted to perform with my new phone (and some I did not know it would do). Good basic explainations and guide to your phone that will have you using your phone like a pro. 5 Stars

For the most part, this book is helping me become better acquainted with a XR. Having never owned an iphone having this manual is helpful.

Helped us get on a consistent schedule for eating and sleeping, just in time for daycare! Read this when baby was about 4 months old and ever since, no lie, she has been sleeping from 8pm to 8am every night. Not sure if its just my baby's temperament, but while other babies her age were struggling with Leap 4 and 5 and the accompanying 4 month sleep regression, my baby was still consistently sleeping 12 hours most nights! Read, read this book if you are a desperate parent. I can see that it may not be for every parent and baby, especially if your baby is struggling with temperament issues.

Don’t buy this book thinking you can bypass the first book. I figured since it was aimed towards an older baby (mine was 5 months when we wanted to start sleep training) it would be all inclusive, but it really just builds off the first (newborn) book. I have had much better success with other books.

Absolutely loved Baby Wise 1. I had my infant sleeping through the night by 6 weeks! I recommend the book to everyone I know!So when I was moving to solids at 5 months I definitely wanted this book for guidance! I love the easy approach and helpful tips. If you’ve already been sleep training but didn’t use the 1st book this will still be extremely helpful!

"Start as you mean to go on." Practical wisdom on avoiding bad habits and instilling good ones from the very beginning, instead of having to retrain later. I love that this book encourages parents to see a child's large capacity to learn and develop, which can be so often underestimated.My son has responded so well to the suggested modes of correction, and he's only 7 months old! So thankful for the messages in this book.

This is an essential book for ALL new and expecting parents! We used the Ezzo's methods when our two boys were born (who are now 19 & 17), and have received compliments ever since from family, friends, and even strangers about how well adjusted they are. The key is to begin training your kids the right way from day one ... and to be consistent. Read this book. Follow exactly what it says. You will be glad you did!

For those who need a routine in their lives to find happiness again, this is a great book (series of books).

I'm not loving this as much as the first Baby Wise book, but it is still filled with good reminders and action items for me as a first time mom. Ezzo provides ideas for keeping your baby's day structured and encouraging healthy development and FUN. I appreciate his tone. Overall this book is less meaty than the first Baby Wise book.

I am a devoted fan of the first Baby Wise book, but the second was a let down. The chapters are not very well organized and can be very confusing at times. There are passages that I am pretty certain were pulled straight from the first book. While there is some good information there about introducing solids, there is a lot that comes across very muddled.

It's a shame that the publishing quality of "First Rate Publishers" doesn't match the quality of the content of this book. A publishing mark in the back of the book matches the date I ordered - they must have slapped it together at that point. There are no page numbers, tiny font, no indentation at the beginning of paragraphs... really disappointing. Please know this rating is a reflection of the publishing, not the title nor the author. Be sure to get a different edition. "First Rate Publishers" must be a cheap knock off publisher owned by Amazon or something, because I bought several "new" books from Amazon Prime, and they were all the same flimsy paper, tiny dim font, numberless pages... very underimpressive Amazon.

However, this large print edition is poorly edited. What a shame. The book deserves better.H. E. Marshall's vocabulary and sentence structure are complex, and reading this book will stretch the younger student's reading comprehension, but he or she will also be enticed into a love of English literature. This book provides the background a student should have before beginning to study the Great Books written in English. From ancient Irish legends to Chaucer to Alexander Pope to Alfred Lord Tennyson, all the greatest works of English literature are introduced here. In most chapters the text includes both the story of a particular work of literature and excerpts from the actual work itself, including some in archaic English. This gives rise to great discussions on the transformation of the English language over time.I own a copy of the text as originally published, and I purchased this large print edition to help my 9yo students to read the text without eye strain. However, this large print edition published by BiblioBazaar is in dire need of an editor. Many whole lines from the original are skipped in this edition, leaving the students scratching their heads in wonder at the already challenging-to-comprehend readings. Sometimes a footnote will be inserted in the text with the next paragraph printed as part of the footnote extending to the bottom of the next page, skipping the entire paragraph in the primary text. This seems to be a quick-published edition that was never edited properly. The shoddy editing is a shame since this book deserves to be in the hands of every young English-speaking student.I cannot recommend this book highly enough, but I strongly suggest purchasing a different edition. There is no excuse for the gross errors in this large-print edition.

Wonderful, gentle introduction to British literature with lots of historical and biographical nuggets. Unfortunately no table of contents, but it is chronological so it is not hard to find what you are looking for.

Great introduction to the Literature of the British Isles for anyone of any age. Very well done!

Missing chapter 3. Poor quality book.

I absolutely love this book!! The stories are wonderful and very well written!

I read my grandfather's 11 plus exam and realised I couldn't have answered many of its questions when I was 15. Nowadays, this book would be read by adults to help them educate their children but really an intelligent 10 or 12 year old should be able to cope with this. As they probably aren't, I recommend this for any parent wishing to give their child a solid foundation in English Lit. She was brilliant. Homeschooling!!!
