In the past few decades scholars of late antiquity, such as Peter Brown and Walter Goffart, have put forth the notion that the Roman Empire didn't fall violently, but rather “transformed” gently and peacefully into a new multi-ethnic society ruled by a series of Germanic kings.Bryan Ward-Perkins will have none of that. His book, along with Peter Heather's “The Fall of the Roman Empire: A New History,” is a stringent corrective that seeks to demonstrate that Rome fell violently, with a catastrophic plunge in living standards. The novelty of Ward-Perkins' book lies inhow he uses archaeological evidence such as pottery shards, tile roofs, and stone construction to show how poor, illiterate, and backward Europe became after imperial Rome disintegrated. You know things were bad when even the cows got smaller. In part one of the book, titled The Fall of Rome, Ward-Perkins begins with a short discussion of the controversy mentioned above and examines how historians from Gibbon on have interpreted Rome's demise. He then looks at eye-witness accounts of the period. What did people who lived through the period, figures like Leo, Bishop of Rome, Hydatius, another bishop in Spain, and the monk Severinus of Noricum have to say about the Germanic invasions? Not surprisingly, they recount years of murder, arson, bloodshed, and horror. Hydatius even connects the arrival of the Germans in his area with the four scourges mentioned in the Book of Revelations and claims that mothers were driven by hunger to kill and eat their own children. After demonstrating the violence of the Germanic invasions and terrifying us with descriptive scenes of anarchy and chaos, Ward-Perkins spends 50 pages examining how and why this happened. The period from 376, when the Goths first invaded, to 476, when Odovacar deposed Romulus Agustulus, is terribly complicated, with dozens of main actors, abrupt reversals of fortune, betrayal, unexpected death, heroic struggle, and the like. Ward-Perkins does a serviceable job of leading the reader through this maze, but you'll need some background in the period to really make sense of it. Peter Heather's account has more detail, cohesion, and narrative energy, so my advice is to read him first. In the second part of the book, titled the End of Civilization, Ward-Perkins looks at the Roman economy before and after the Germanic invasions. Using archaeological evidence gleaned from diggings all over the Roman Empire, he shows how even the poor benefited from the fruits of Rome's sophisticated and complex economy. With access to well-made pottery, leather and metal goods, coins, tile roofs, and stone buildings, the Roman everyman of 2,000 years ago enjoyed a standard of living that would not be reached again in many parts of Europe for 1,000 years.Mr. Ward-Perkins also makes us realize how intellectual life, literacy, and the higher arts always rest on a certain level of material wealth and sophistication. While pots, coins, and tile roofs might seem boring, their presence indicates specialized training and knowledge, and without them, not only are we deprived of good plumbing, we are bereft of art, philosophy, and literary culture.I loved this book; it is beautifully written and full of arcane information, obscure authors, excellent charts, graphs and maps, and solid original scholarship, In short, it is a history buff's delight. Find it and read it--your view of Rome will never be the same.

The goal of this short volume (considering the possible scope of such a study) is to put forward the author’s case for his claim that the Western Roman Empire did actually “fall” in the commonly understood sense, refuting some more modernistic interpretations. Some authors assert that the empire simply entered a prolonged period of slow decline; others even more radically describe this as a “transformation,” suggesting that post-Empire late antiquity, although different, was somehow just as good or better than the original, that people were freer or otherwise better off, etc.It may (as some reviewers assert) be a consensus view that the Western Empire did not signal the end of civilization, and that the invaders attempted to continue administering the empire. The author grants that assertion but with qualifications. He states at one point that “the fifth century invasions caused these difficulties, and brought down the ancient economy in the West. However, this does not mean that the death of the sophisticated ancient world was intended by the Germanic peoples. The Invaders entered the Empire with a wish to share in its high standard of living, not to destroy it...” My own conclusion, based in part on this book, is that wittingly or not, the invaders killed the goose that laid the golden egg, and that however much they may have wanted to preserve the system, they lacked the knowledge and the civil structures needed to keep civilization at its former level. In the above respect, I felt the author made a strong and believable case for his point of view. He describes what the effects on those who lived through and after the fall likely were. He explains what the archeological record can and cannot tell us, and when he is extrapolating or theorizing about what happened rather than reporting actual findings, he makes this clear. He accurately points out what many writers gloss over, which is that the fall really occurred in the Western Empire, and that the Eastern Empire actually withstood the initial invasions quite well and continued to prosper for a much longer time.A few readers reported that they found this a little boring. I felt it was quite readable and well-annotated, and did not unnecessarily belabor its points. The author made several interesting observations; one concerned graffiti and what it shows us about the level of a society’s literacy. Another one I’ve found particularly pertinent to many historical works was his statement that “there is inevitably a close connection between the way we view our own world and the way we interpret the past.” This observation alone goes a long way towards explaining why there are so many “revisionist” histories out there; many authors are trying to rewrite the past in order to justify their vision of what the present should be like. This particular book has no obvious political or social agenda in that respect. The book does NOT provide much detail about WHY the Western Empire fell. It does not get into any real detail about the condition of the empire in 400 AD that he believes made the Western Empire vulnerable to the barbarian invasions, and definitely does not attempt to analyze what may have happened in Roman society that led to that state. That does not appear to be its purpose, and in retrospect, I do not view that as a shortcoming. That ground has been well-covered by others, so those looking for something more comprehensive that includes this particular kind of analysis will need to look elsewhere.

Superbly readable and a pleasure. Ward-Perkins offers a corrective to the new revisionists who insist that the Roman Empire went gently into that good night. It was neither gentle nor good. The end of that civilization was social and economic catastrophe. Using archeological and textual evidence, the author reveals the depth of the collapse and a plunge into a chaos that did not end for centuries in the West. The book is suprisingly short but gives clear, concise evidence for the author's thesis.

Part of my reason to read this book was to see if there were any parallels in the fall of Rome to what's happening today in the West. Turns out, plenty, if you care to look.I loved it/It was amazing5/5 Goodreads5/5 AmazonFurther Readingo The Decline and Fall of Europe (and maybe the West), Time, August 22, 2011o The New Europeans, National Geographic, September 28, 2016

Have loved Star Wars Comics for the past 2 decades or so. I was a HUGE fan of what Darkhorse did with the series, and when Marvel took over, after the Disney buyout, I was rather nervous, that all the new Star Wars comics would have cameos of Donald Duck or something, LOL. I must say that I have never been so happy to be wrong. This series is to date ( as far as I know) the only Comic "series" to tacke the the newest Trilogy continuity. I believe Marvel has doen some mini-series in this era , but as far a long runnin series I think thiis series is your ticket, if you want a book set during this era. This series starts off, with the Resistance being formed but before the events of the Force Awakens. I am not sure how long before, but I would estimate maybe a yearor so. Overall the series is pretty captivating and delves into the actions of Poe and his "Black Sqaudron" during the Cold War between the Resistance and the First Order. The story is a serious one, but doesn't go into the dark depths of the Star Wars universe like some of the Dark Horse titles did. I am ok with this, and this is defenitely a Star Wars story that is suitable for younger readers, but not "kiddy."I think the art style is pretty good, not as good as some of the stuff Dark Horse sent us, but it is quality. I would compare it to the new Marvel Star Wars series that they put out which focuses on the main characters of the Original Trilogy.Overall, I recommend picking this series up, it is fun. I don't think is "seminal piece" of Star Wars comics lore (like Dark Empire by Dark Horse), but it is a fun way to explore the New Trilogy era.

This book was a real surprise. You see, I wasn't enamored with the Poe character from The Force Awakens. I thought he was OK (and, I'll admit, he's been growing on me). But, it wasn't an instant like. Now, this book comes along and breaks my expectation. Not only is it a damn good Star Wars read, the stories have made me like the Poe Dameron character more than I did before! Here's what I like about this book:1. We finally get a story that adds depth to the new movie and continuity! I love reading about Luke and Leia and Han, but, damn, man! It's time to learn about the new characters from TFA. This book does that.2. The story references and continues from the young adult novel Before The Awakening. You don't need to read that book to enjoy this comic (I didn't read it), but you've got some continuity there--and that's cool!3. The story also fleshes out part of TFA. In the opening scene of Episode VII, we see Poe meet with Lor San Tekka. This comic shows where that quest began--with General Organa's orders to seek out the Explorer and try to learn where it is Luke Skywalker has fled. This story adds more depth to the movie.4. We see the creation of Black Squadron, and we get to know the original pilots: Snap Wexley, Kare Kun, L'ulo, Jess Pava, and Oddy Muva. It is nice to get some more depth on these characters. For example, did you know that Snap and Kare are romantically involved? Did you know L'ulo practically raised Poe, and Poe's parents were Rebel Alliance fighters? Yep. Poe spent his childhood on Yavin 4! Jess is a wiz with starfighter mechanics--always trying new gear and systems. And, Oddy starts off flying an old surplus A-Wing because the Resistance doesn't have enough of the T-70 X-Wings.5. Agent Terex is an excellent antagonist. He's a royal, pompous, ass--a real Imperial. And, his personal ship is the Carrion Spike. Well, that's Grand Moff's Tarkin's personal vessel..or was, 35+ years ago. How did Terex get his hands on it?6. There's cool, Star Warsy Space Opera stuff! An ancient city in the center of a mountain. First Order stormtroopers on hoverpacks. Japanese-Godzilla-like-giant-monsters! A prison that needs no walls as it is set on a high gravity world. The prison is set in a 1G field, and if anybody leaves that field, the 8Gs of the world outside will kill them. Cool stuff!7. The stories are interesting and fun and feel like Star Wars. They're also a large dose of humor. Reading Poe and Terex go at it verbally is a hoot! And, BB-8 gathers the astromechs from the squadron to go about their own little mission. Cracks me up, this line of astros, following BB-8, single file, all electronically hooting and humming. What a scene!8. Papa Toren returns! Did you read the Lando book? Lando met with Papa Toren, and it was Toren who put the contract out on Calrissian. He's this interesting alien. Silent. And, the's got these little guys with wings that buzz around him, doing his communicating for him. So, here we are, 40+ years later, and Toren is in prison! Neat connection for those who catch it.Yes, I loved this book. And, I can't wait for volume two to come out (the wait is too long!).

The trick with the backstory material in these large franchise universes (Star Wars and Star Trek) is building off the canon material and filling in the details, without painting yourself into a corner that will be made obsolete by the next movie. This does the trick well - known characters and alien races, merged with a goal (find the Lor San Tekka seen in the Force Awakens). It's sort of a tease, but the story, the action, the charactes all worked together here for an enjoyable story.

Not all that interesting with sub-par artwork. So forgettable that I can’t think of anything else to say but need more words for review.

Fan Fave Poe Dameron gets to show off his wit and skill in this one-shot. Well written and drawn, very engaging. Wonderful addition to the canon.

Very mediocre, but the series becomes amazing so it’s worth the read.

Really love all 3 volumes about Poe. Beautiful art, interesting stories and fills in some gaps.

I admit it - I bought this because the cover was so colorful and engaging, that I thought even if my 2 year old was way too young for the content, we could still have some fun exploring the pictures until she is more advanced. I'm glad I did. Even though there are definitely many elements in this book which are beyond a 2 year old's abilities, the Leapfrog system itself operates under so many levels that it can actually be tailored for a much younger child's exploration. At one level (the youngest ability level), she can just play with exploring the names and sounds of the illustrations (very basic). The games and activities for older children seem very engaging covering a wide range of topics:Activity 1: A two page spread of a refridgerator with an illustration for each letter of the alphabet - and you help the narrator find items ("Hmm, I would like a sandwich. Please help me find something to put on it.") with great positive reinforcement.Activity 2: A two page "vowel show" with really adorable illustrations, focusing on the vowel sounds in context.Activity 3: The word circus -- an exploration of letters and words - again, with great, vibrant illustrationsActivity 4: Consanat Blend Galary -- haven't played with this one at all, but on the left side of the page you see a painter with an easel and the paint colors each have consant blends ("sw," "tr," "br," etc.) - and on the right side of the 2-page spread there are 20 of his "paintings."Activity 5: A two page spread story about a special lunch, with Leap (the frog) as the main character - and involves some math skills as we count the items he eats.Activity 6: Pattern Palace -- a very creative way to work with young children's ability to understand pattern development.Activity 7: Skip counting - featuring 50 numbered birds and questions to guide your child through counting games. My toddler is too young for this, but enjoys just clicking on each bird to hear its number and sound effects.Activity 8: Monster mathematics -- very realistic illustrations of candy (8 candy canes, 5 chocolates, 2 candy corns, etc.) - and the monster makes great "munching" sounds as you help him pick the right quantity/etc.Activity 9: Months and Seasons (haven't tried yet, will update)Activity 10: Party months (haven't tried yet, will update)Activity 11: My community -- two page spread of a town with key buildings (hospital, fire station, barber shop, cinema, post office, police, zoo, supermarket, ice cream shop) with descriptions/songs/etc. Great page!Activity 12: Dinorsaur class photo -- adorable pictures of various, detailed dinosaurs with fun facts and sounds. Definitely lots of content here (and dinosaurs I have never heard of!)Activity 13: Feelings funhouse: an exporation of feelings through music and illustrations. Great idea, but the illustrations on this one are not as great as the other pages.I think a bright 3 year old would get A LOT out of this. And because it's not a long story, it can be used in short bursts - just flipping through the pages or doing one page here, one page there. I really do recommend this highly.

Bought this for my 4 year old at Christmas and he loves it! He just turned 5 and I really feel like it's a good educational book that gives him some independent time away from me (that is NOT screen time) so I can get a few things done around the house. I recommend to everyone.

My 3 year old is really interested in learning. We saw this at toys r us and he begged for it so I got it for him for his quiet time during the day. I like that he can sit and use his reader to go over things and learn at his own pace. He's actually a bit ahead from using his leap products. We do try to limit technology (tablet and television) use to no more than an hour a day but I don't count this as technology (even though it is) because he can sit quietly and do this while his baby sisters nap. I have twins so I'll pretty much do anything to keep them down for a nap so I can get things done around the house.

i got this for my daughter because she will be going to kindergarten soon. She won't sit and play these games like she does other books. She will look at it for a while but won't even finish a game before trying another and then soon she's putting it away. It doesn't seem to really stimulate her. I got it because is liked that it had so many different things like math, reading, and science. But it just doesn't seem to keep her interested.

The leap pen is a great tool and having these books really adds to its utility. There's a lot of eye candy and learning challenges in this book that are suitable for my four year-old. Since getting it, however, she has gone through this one so much that I'm afraid it will be 'old hat' soon - but that is no knock against the product. What is a minor negative is the need to go online and download the audio as a companion file to make the book make sense. This requires you to download a host application that acts as a hub/server for each of the books to be downloaded onto the leap pen. It's not a problem if you're somewhat savvy in general but it will definitely create too many steps for some.Overall, I would buy this again and recommend it with the minor caution above...

My 4.5 year old just loves the Leapfrog books. She will spend hours "reading" along and doing all the fun activities. I am so thankful for a break in the questions! ;) And it's not TV...it's a book! Perfect. She has already learned and reviewed quite a few things and tells me all about them.

My grandaughter loves this.I would recommend it to any parent who has children that takes interest in reading.

This is a ridiculous book. I thought it would be higher level but it was written for PRE Daycare or someone who is under 3 years old. I wasted my money on this for my current kid but I kept it for my hopefully future kid when he or she is 2 years old. It seems you should stick with the Disney books or something else. They seem better.

Great, came on time, no complaints here!

This review is for the Starter box for Horrorclix, a collectible miniatures game (CMG) by WizKids. WizKids is better known for their HeroClix CMG, with superhero miniatures. HorrorClix uses the same concept (painted miniature on base that clicks through different ability stats based on damage) with classic horror monsters, plus niche monsters that appeal to certain fan groups (Lovecraftian monsters particularly stand out). Rather than review the entire CMG/Horrorclix concept, I'll only review the starter box.The idea of the starter box is to provide enough material for two people to play a game, and hopefully get you interested in buying more. I ordered the starter to play a game with a friend and was quite pleased by the product's visual appeal. It is packaged like a shadowbox, with all the figures and terrain pieces visible and in place like a diorama. Unfortunately, the shadowbox had to be torn up in order to get the pieces out; being able to store them in the same diorama would have been nice. You get a LOT of stuff with the starter. First, you get 6 monsters and their monster cards, There is a map, 12 victim tokens, 6 portal squares, 6 terrain squares, 3 terrain items, 10 plot twists, 2 subplots, and the rulebook.-The monsters are nicely sculpted, but the plastic feels cheap and the dial clix don't always align with the window well. Every starter has the same monsters, which are a red vampire lady holding a skull, a skeleton, a werewolf, the ghost of a lynched man, a chainsaw slasher, and a straitjacketed monster with tentacles. It's fairly representative of the monsters in the base set, with most of the powers and monster types. The monster cards look nice and detail the miniature's powers, but NOT dial clix statistics. (Maybe we're supposed to be surprised at the clix results?)-The map is dual-sided, with a graveyard on one side and a haunted mansion on the other. Maps are hard to come by for this game, so this one is nice to have. You can, of course, make your own. There are plenty of obstacles, winding passageways, and atmospheric decoration to make these maps interesting. They have the downside of buckling at the folds - very difficult to make them lie flat.-You get three 3-D terrain, a haunted tree and 2 tomobstones. I don't think WizKids produced any other 3-D terrain, so this is more for novelty's sake than strategy.-You should have 12 victim tokens for a game, and they are included. They are cardboard pogs, with a victim stereotype (jock, cheerleader, reporter). Their purpose is to be eaten by the monsters, but it's also fun to watch them flee.-There are portals and hindering terrain squares available to be used. They are double-sided, so you can choose which image to place (cobwebs, scary eyes, mold, a swamp, etc.) which adds to the atmosphere.-The plot twists are events that you can play (horror-movie themed) which help you to control victims. The subplots give you a way to score extra points by completing a mission. The two subplots were to kill all opposing monsters and to eliminate all victims.-The rulebook is about 50pg, B&W softcover. It could have used some play examples, and I found some of the rules rather opaque (such as using portals). All of my quibbles with the starter have more to do with the game than the set itself; it's a very nice starter kit with everything you need to play. And you really can play with just the starter; I divided the 6 figures with a friend and we sat down for a game. I learned that the chainsaw slasher is incredibly powerful and definitely tournament worthy. Probably the blood vamp as well, while the other figures are nice starter pieces. I'm definitely pleased with the value and have bought more boosters since to continue playing.

#63,697 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

Having read a pretty good overall history of Japan, I wanted to find another book that briefly covers its entire timeline as a review. This book does not do the job well. The writing style is extremely dry and the author often uses double negatives or run on sentences. It's like reading a graduate dissertation. The content is also very lacking. Mason zooms past sections without providing enough history, or gives some small topics way too much focus. For example, he has pages devoted to Nara poems (just the translated poems) which he doesn't explain the significance of, but barely mentions the Tale of Genji. There's also many sections where he fails to impress the importance of the topic because of the convoluted style he writes in. Concepts that can be easily explained in a paragraph are dragged out for pages, it all feels a bit elitist. For a not as dry, compact, informative, and CONCISE overview, I suggest Kenneth G. Henshall's A History of Japan.

Let me first start out by saying that I greatly enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in a thorough understanding of Japanese history. The book deals with its subject in a chronological order, with an emphasis on important people and events. These highlights are in turn fleshed out by a comprehensive analysis of what historians consider to be the underlying causes for change. In addition, a running commentary is made on the intelectual and cultural developments of each periode, particularly within Buddhism, which facilitated change. All of this is presented in a compressed yet accessible style, leaving the reader not only with a clear understanding of what happened, but also why it happened. Anecdotes and excerpts from novels and plays also give the text a colourful and enjoyable feel.So why just three stars? While the book is incredibly detailed when it comes to Japan’s internal history, the history of its colonial empire and actions during the Pacific war are purposfully vague. Korea, at the time of the invasion, is refered to as a ‘backwards country’, and the worst thing the Japanese did during World War Two was appearantly forcing older Indonesians to use Japanese Standard time rather than local time. Indeed, the author flat out refers to the execution of Japanese war criminals as a ‘dubious arraignment’. These things runs contrary to all other records of the era.Japan’s history is more than the Pacific War. To focus unduly on its actions during that war would give a slanted view of its history, but so does ignoring them outright. For all its merit, this book whitewashes a difficult time in human history, and that makes it a bad history book, no matter how well written it otherwise is.

Note: The context of my reading of this book was in that of a class room setting, so some information may have been made more clear after lecture and not because of the book itself. In "A History of Japan: Revised Edition" the whole of a. Japan's history is covered up to the 1950s. From the original historical references of ancient Chinese scribes to the imperial documents of the Meiji period and beyond, this book manages to cover quite a lot of ground in a little bit of time, and it manages to do so with a nearly concise telling. I say nearly concise because the book tends to get bogged down in a generous procession of name-dropping and the occasional fluffed bit information. The authors are not attempting to pad their book by any means, so rest assured the price you pay is certainly worth the information you receive, just be prepared for reread a few sections in an attempt to filter out superfluous information and cut through the occasional fluff. Documents and references are provided for each chapter via footnotes, so you skeptics can fact check the fine work of these historians. Overall it was a great educational experience, despite the sparse moments of information overload. I highly recommend reading it, if you're at all interested in Japanese history.Likes:-Reliable information-Concise and well laid out chaptersDislikes:-A spot of fluff here or there-A lot of naming dropping, past the point of necessity sometimes and to the point of confusion.

If you like lots of facts, and little to no dubious extrapolations or conclusions, then you will like this book.My nephew is living in Japan, and thus my inerest in learning more about the origins and development of this ancient civilization. One thing I did not expect, was how this history has helped me to understand the long history of the complex and conflicted relationship between Japan, Korea and China.Three stars because the style is a little dry and professorial, compared to my favorite history authors, and might be a turn-off for younger readers.

I was born and educated in Japan. I knew the history. I found it very well written.

Fascinating and very well written. I purchased this book because of an upcoming trip to Japan and I not only learned a good bit of the country's history, but also gained more of an understanding of the people of Japan.

What I most liked about this book is that is does not cover only military/political history, but also arts, religion, poetry, architecture, theater, and many other aspects of Japanese society that are essential to understand this country. It is a great book for those who want to enter in this world. Now I feel I have the basics about the country for a more detailed study.

I really enjoyed this book - covers the entire history of Japan, politics and culture. Mason does seem to be a bit biased against the US (in WW II) and for Japan, which kind of soured the reading experience.

Miles Morales is your average teenager… goes to school, gets in fights with his parents, crushes on classmates, and plays old-school video games with his roommate. But something takes him away from those ‘normal’ priorities of his life, his spidey-sense. Visions and nightmares, coincidences and cold sweats. Will Miles be able to balance his hectic life and figure out the threats at the same time?Be forewarned: This is not an action/super-hero/shoot-em-up novel. This is a novel that takes on weighty topics like race, and all the complications of teen life. Yes, there’s some web shooting, but not much. But that is not the focus. Reynolds takes the time to concentrate on the young man behind the mask. It is a much appreciated departure from many of the YA novelizations or tie-ins I’ve read. Recommended.

Things I loved about this book: The Sijos, Jason Reynolds' ability to add mundane details into his stories and normalize characters, the very present parents, the rich and detailed side characters.Things I'm struggling with: This story, is obviously, about Spiderman. Throughout the story there is a build up to the battle scene, with Miles' Spidey sense alerting him and the way too evil history teacher. It felt like all of this build up happened and then the battle scene was 10 pages long and then it was over. However, the more I think about this, the more I think that it's done this way on purpose. Being Spiderman is just one part of Miles. He is also a son, and a friend, and a student, and a teenage boy trying to navigate his crush. This story tells one small period of time in his life. Once he has defeated the villain, he still has real life demons to answer to and problems of racism and discrimination that cannot be as easily defeated as the larger-than-life villain. So while this was unsettling to me when I read it, it forced me ask myself a lot of questions and grapple with why the story was told this way and the answers make the grappling worth it.tl;dr Jason Reynolds is masterful in his story telling. This is exactly the story Donald Glover was talking about years ago. Spiderman is just a normal, smart black kid from Brooklyn.

I have been struggling to find books my daughter will read and this one was a hit! She loved all the excitement in this book and at the end she was feverishly flipping pages and asked for the next in series! She declared that she needed to read more like these.

Most importantly my son loves this book. When I helped him with his book report I came to appreciate the social conflict that played such an important role in Miles Morales' life. This is not a beat em up, bang em up, good guy wins sorta book. It rises well above all that and delivers a powerful message in humanity. What is that message? I'm not telling! That would just spoil everything! My son had a little difficulty grasping the real message of this book and therefore challenged his highest intellect. We had a lot of quality time working on his book report together. This is now a family favorite!

My daughter and I loved the movie so much that I had to get her the novel. We are reading it together and there is just so much more to it! Which is usually the case when you are talking the book over the movie. excellent purchase.

He said he likes that the hero was black and how it related to today's society.

great read! Love Miles Morales as a character and it's nice to read about him more. There's not too much action which I wasn't a fan of but the story was nice for a quick read and a laugh or too. There are some plot points that don't go anywhere but I feel can be brought up in a sequel if needed. Overall, great book

Not much Spider-Man, not a good villain. Just didn’t enjoy the story. villain was odd, and not resolved very well
