I love National Geographic's board books for toddlers. Both my kids (3.5 and 1.5 years old) really enjoy spending time with them and I am sure they learn a lot. The 'Look and Learn' series target younger kids (1-4 years) in general but some books are for the younger and some books are for the older ages within that range. In particular this book aims the younger children (I would say 1-2 years old) but the vibrant colors and beautiful pictures would attract the older ones too.this book is a 4.5 X 4.5 inches square with 22 pages. It is a classical board book design so that younger children can enjoy it without tearing the pages. The binding is of good quality (our experience from other books of these series) and the colors are vibrant.The colors included are orange, green, yellow, red and blue. Each color is mentioned in four pages. The first two gives random examples of items that share that color and the next two pages is like a quiz where it asks the child to find that color in a mixed picture. Final two pages are like a general quiz design where all colors are asked within one example.Not only it would help the little one learn the colors and the items that were depicted, but also you can manipulate the quiz pages and ask many other questions of your choosing.I am happy for the purchase

This book is ok. I have expected it to be a little bit more educational though. The size is good for small kids but the content is not too great. some of these pages just don't make much sense for a toddler. There are easier and better ways to show opposites. Overall the book is not necessarily bad but I would not buy it again if I had a choice.

This is a good book, my two year old daughter enjoys it. The National Geographic book series is very good with lots of great pictures and a few teaching points and scientific facts. I will buy more books like this for sure.

I bought a few of these books for my friends 2yr olds birthday. Shes a more intelligent toddler so I looked for books that would match that. The pictures are bright, the information is good for a small child, short sentences with little informational tidbits. I think these will be excellent.

This is a really great little book. My son (20 months) has recently been interested in "real-picture" books and this one is perfect. It has enough pictures on each page to keep him interested, but it's not overly busy. It's a great book if you want to work on vocabulary.

My son is 15 months old and he loves books. He will pick this book up, but he is not super interested in it. The pictures are vibrant and I like that they have little facts on some pages. I was expecting a little bit more from National Geographic.

Love these books. Planning on buying the whole series.

The book is very well written- I had taken a photography class at a community college and the book I had to use was incredibly dry. For some reason, the details on f stop, etc are not as soporific. You get not only the realistic photos of good photography but the examples of mistakes that most beginners take, which helps you understand what to avoid and maybe troubleshoot your mistakes from photos you took before you bought the book. I liked the checklist, where he tells you pick five different shooting scenarios and you make notes for yourself on the mode, the exposure, etc. It’s like a shortcut for yourself. Don’t ask why it never occurred to me to do that, I guess I always thought a good photographer should just know/remember, but when you’re learning that’s too much pressure. The set up is very easy- if you have a specific thing you’re trying to figure out, it is easy to find, not buried in the middle of 4 chapters of something else (talking about my old textbook here haha). Great reference tool.

I wish I had this book when I first decided to become a serious photographer. Mr. Darlow states in his introduction "This book is geared primarily toward intermediate and advanced photographers (amateurs and pros)"; however, the simplicity with which he explains more complex aspects of photography such as aperture ("The smaller the opening, the higher the f-stop"), and its relationship to depth of field, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity, can significantly decrease the learning-curve time for photographers moving from point-and-shoot cameras or auto mode to manual control of their cameras. In addition to its simplicity, Mr. Darlow's text contains some very unique features. Among them, for the DIY photographer, he provides well-developed, common sense hack versions of expensive gear that can save photographers significant amounts of money.Another feature, the "Photo Checklist", commits to paper the mental checklist that forms the foundation of a good photo. Photographers run through this list but often forget one or two elements before hitting the shutter. Mr. Darlow's checklist addresses setting up equipment, evaluating the scene, and adjusting camera setting in order to ensure a technically correct photo. This saves time and effort by reducing the number of reshoots of the scene or subject.With so many other helpful features, Focus & Filter should be on every photographer's bookshelf, but because it's so practical and useful, I recommend carrying while shooting: it's almost like having an assistant.

An excellently written book on the subject of photography. The examples are very good and the book gives tips on how to avoid commonly made mistakes.Beyond the excellent photography in the book itself it offers practical advice to would be photographers on how to actually begin and how to get the best shots. It is very difficult to find guides that are actually helpful when it comes to artistic endeavors like photography or art in general, this book achieves that and more. I would definitely recommend this to any and all budding photographers, get out there and start taking photos.

I loved this book, couldn’t put it down. It is so well written that I felt like I was right there in the mountains of Scotland with him. The writing is very engaging and entertaining and at times just downright hilarious. This is a great read and definitely worth the money. I look forward to reading Mr Burns other work.

In this new volume from John Burns, he takes us to the rugged terrain of the highlands of Scotland, particularly around the area of Inverness. The focal point is the small mountain hut known as the bothy, many of which can be found dotted around the highlands. In these John meets a variety of characters, some of whom you may recognize from your own time spent with the hill walking community. There were occasions when I struggled to hold in my laughter as I lay in bed reading late at night, promising myself this would be the last chapter I'd read that evening (usually to no avail). On a different note, it was interesting and fun to read how John's experiences changed over the years as he grew older. I understood his pain and pleasure as he made his way north on the Pennine Way, retracing the footsteps he had first made 40 years earlier. All in all, a marvelous read that should be enjoyed by all who have spent much time walking in the mountains, be they in Scotland, America or elsewhere.

Sometimes you grab a book and by the time you are half way down the first page you already know you are holding a treasure. This book is one of them. John D Burns takes you on a fantastic journey through the Highlands and he describes them so vividly and with such talent you want to stand right next to him in the rain, and freezing cold, just so that you can too experience bit of that magic.

This is very well written. The writing is clever and funny, I found myself laughing out loud on probably 90 per cent of the stories. It was great to share John's cynicism and observations of the people he encountered in the bothies. While I might not be obsessed with walking to his extent, it did revive some of the memories of my adventure in my younger days. Now on to his next book.

In a captivating and enjoyable style, John Burns weaves tales of being in the Scottish mountains, many of the tales centered upon the comforting and at times lifesaving bothy, the small & rustic mountain huts. Burns offers the reader just the right mix of storytelling, natural and human history, and self-deprecating humor. I look forward to reading more of his work!

Wonderful set of essays, some fictional filled with life perspectives and retrospectives from a life time of hill walking and hiking. Well worth reading.

I found this book to have some interesting parts to it. There were however, many parts that I found repetitive too. Overall, I did take a few things away and to me that made this book a worthwhile read.

This book was useful! funny! The more I read into it, the more interesting it gets. The examples used in the book are very relatable, which makes the concepts easy to understand. This book takes the reader through the 'laws of visual attraction' to inspire them and help them implement this within their own business.

Sweat the small stuff and, where necessary, make small but motivated changes to a product or service’s design and prepare for a boost in sales. This is the key takeaway from this interesting, thought-provoking book. Of course, sales may not be the only thing you can save on, as you will soon discover.It is not always the case that big changes are the best, as often what may appear to be a minor change in focus can be the most yielding. It boils down to visual attraction that triggers the rational human being to make a purchase decision. When faced with effectively two identical products, something must trigger the buyer and it is not always price! This book takes the reader through the ‘laws of visual attraction’ to inspire them and help them implement this within their own businesses. The author has been doing visual merchandising consultancy for many top brands over the past 23 years, so clearly knows her stuff.It is great that this book did not demand prior knowledge, although of course those with a background in merchandising will benefit even more from this. It can be a book for beginner, expert, the curious and even those working in unrelated areas – it is more than just making your store or product box look nice. The text is accessible, suits different audiences and delivers quality, informative advice freely and generously. Overall, a comprehensive mix of advice is given that can lead to informed transformation that might not be necessarily noticed by all (unless it is a ‘big bang’ approach). It may be visible to the company’s financial bottom-line.One interesting take-out was that the right use of colour can even save on your energy bills! The author noted how a company painted its blue cafeteria walls orange, and managed to save a lot on air conditioning energy bills as it could reduce the temperature from 24C to 20C since everyone complained ‘how warm the building was’. Maybe I need to paint my house walls orange and see if this fools my wife and daughter!This is a book you should consider!

Ms Lee is an expert on visual merchandising, that aspect of actor network theory that contends that we are helpless to withstand the siren call of meaningful design.Well, Ms Lee may be an inspirational speaker but she is not a much of a writer, or maybe the fault lies more with the translator Sung Ryu.Ms Lee seems to have taken her PowerPoint slides and some tapes of her lectures and reconfigured them into this tiny book. I am very interested in visual design and how it affects us but I found myself uninterested in what she has to say.Someone should have told Ms Lee and her editors that prose style is more important to readers than visual style.I received a review copy of "Secrets Behind Things That Look Good: How Small Changes in Design Lead to a Big Jump in Sales" by Claire Langju Lee translated by Sung Ryu (Influential Inc.) through NetGalley.com.

Langju Lee explores visual marketing/merchandising with such topics as focal colors, sensory memory, legendary logos, color psychology, cool vs. warm color temperatures, lighting rounded items from a 45-degree angle, encouraging shoppers to wander, object ergonomics, minimal packaging, and the shelving style of one of my favorite brands, Lush Cosmetics.

This was a very interesting read, I got a lot of great tips especially about the effectiveness of the right lighting. Some of the information is well beyond what I will need for my direct sales business; however, even a few of the tips and ideas will make a huge difference.

I liked the exact measurements given for customer attraction. Also, the general advice on design principles for display setups was useful. There could have been more descriptions, a longer book.

My biggest struggles before picking up this book were a relatively weak working memory of Geometry and Algebra, and a lack of set of effective strategies to solve the trickier GMAT quant problems in the time allotted. The explanations provided in GMAT specific prep-books provided complicated, often extremely lengthy methods for solving the problems. However, to succeed on the GMAT, you need to have a strong knowledge base, and a variety of strategies at your disposal that allow you to skip unnecessarily time consuming math to solve the problem and move onto the next one. This book provides you just that: an overview of the basics you need to know, and the tools to create a broad foundation of strategies you need to answer any question quickly and effectively. The strategies are a different way of approaching both Math and the Quant section, but ones that pay off immensely. I would recommend this to anyone looking to up their Quant score on the GMAT or any standardized test.

This book is written extremely well and I recommend it for anyone who is not just looking for preparing GMAT and GRE but also for landing consulting positions. Thanks to this book I was able to land a position at one of the top consulting firms in the world. I like the logical layout and the theory behind it that really helps to set the rules and approaches to do problem solving exercises and at the same time it is a great way to re-learn math that we tend to forget after school/university. A great guide and I would say the best I found in the market since I bought several books for GMAT and consulting applications. Also a very reasonable price! You will not be disappointed.

While I have never been particularly good at standardized tests, this book was beyond helpful in seeing and understanding word problems differently (I have used Kaplan, Manhattan Prep & Veritas in the past). It helped me make connections on a variety of basic math functions that I did not recognize before and offered a standardized approach to solve some of the trickier problems that plagued me in the past.I would highly recommend whether you are a novice or an advanced test taker.

This book helped me take my GMAT score up 100 points and was the only learning material I used for Quant. I am an average math student with ADD and this book was the perfect solution. Margo does an incredible job at breaking down complex topics into easy, digestible steps. The tables and labels approach, converting words to math, and overall layout of the book is pure gold. I fully recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their GMAT score!

Fantastic book with great tips. I raised my score 100 points on the GMAT by implementing the techniques discussed therein. The author has a natural way of re-explaining things you do, or do not, know to promote better understanding and efficiency. As compared to other books I used to study, All Your Word Problems Solved, presents the material in a no nonsense manner and gives relevant example problems to reinforce the concepts.

I would give this book a negative rating if possible, I couldn't find not one single practice problem.All theory, but no practice problems, how are students supposed to learn if they cannot try some problems.
