I downloaded this so that I could have a copy of Robert's Rules of Order in our school board meetings but it is practically useless. This is NOT the most recent 11th edition. It is the ninth and the contents, format, pages, etc. are completely different. So when you are in a meeting with that one snotty person that likes to quote Roberts and has the paperback edition, they will be able to find stuff faster than you AND they will say that their version rules because it is the most recent. Really puts you at a disadvantage to have this Kindle version.

Don't buy this version. Worst product I have ever bought from Amazon, and worst book I have ever bought anywhere. Looks like something produced by a kid and never proofed before printing. It does a disservice to a revered resource. Pretty cover, but you know what they say. I'll have to find another version somewhere.....

This book was not at all what I expected. From previous reviews, it appears that different versions of the book are available under the same heading. When I first opened the book, I thought the initial pages were errata for what followed but the entire book seemed to be some kind of annotation or perhaps abbreviation. This book does not have a table of contents or index, so trying to find something in the book is practically impossible. Unfortunately, I did not look at the book as soon as I got it nor did I need the reference within the first 30 days of ordering it so cannot return it. If you decide to order this book, be sure to look at it as soon as you get it so you can return it if you got the same version I did. I have learned my lesson and hope I can prevent someone else from making the same mistake. Now I will have to spend more money getting the right text but, this time I will go locally so I can be sure I am getting what I need. This one will go in the trash because that it all it is good for.

We bought this for our pastor to help him with an easy version of Roberts Rules of Order. It's a very nice condensed version of the basics you need to know to conduct a meeting. I liked it and will order another one for my husband. It's much better for a refresher course than than the big book. It tells everything you need to know in a short and precise format. Very handy.

Compared to my old copy (which was falling apart and had the corner chewed by a puppy), the new version is totally disorganized, the so called index is a mess and practically unreadable. It seems as if someone had the bright idea of "modernizing" it to make it more readable by attempting to clump like subjects together. Instead of moving in an organized systematic method all they did was make a mess.

I wanted the whole thing, the complete book, but this is the "pocket guide." If you look hard enough on the web page for this item, you will see that it is the "Pocket Manual of Rules of Order for Deliberative Assemblies." I didn't look hard enough before I bought it, but I should have figured the entire book wouldn't be available on Kindle for $0.99 when the paperback is $12. If it was the whole book for Kindle it would have been about $10! Fortunately, I figured it out before my 7 days were up and I was able to return it. Maybe you'll read this and save yourself the trouble.

This Kindle version of Robert's Rules of Order lacks a copyright page and an edition page necessary to authenticate it as the authoritative version for use at a meeting. Until these issues are corrected, purchase is a waste. Each edition brings changes and no one wants to stand up to argue a point only to have someone else observe aloud that you haven't bothered reading the most recent edition which changed the rule governing your argument or point. Save your money until the most recent edition is formatted for Kindle.

Anyone having responsibility to preside over meetings in a variety of settings should have a copy of this book. In it you will find the help and advice needed to prepare properly, and officiate properly. The result will be a well-run meeting that actually accomplishes something in a reasonable time. I give 5 stars also to the seller for fair price, fast delivery, and a book in very good used condition as advertised. Can't ask for much more. ps: It's also a good idea for meeting attendees to be familiar with Roberts Rules, so as to be enabled to offer corrections/suggestions when meetings begin to get out of control and "off-topic".

As a very fit, female adult who was looking for a new way to stay active, I decided to try adult ballet classes and love them. As I wanted to better prepare for class, I looked for a book like this one. I particularly like the photos showing how NOT to do things...very helpful for a newbie. I also enjoyed the section on the Ideal Ballet body. I don't buy into the ludicrous PC notion that being overweight is ever good and this section makes it clear that to dance professionally you need to be LEAN. It also was nice to see that I fit into the ideal ( 5'8" and 116lbs...okay I am a pound over the cutoff of 115) and even though I obviously will never dance professionally, its just nice to know. A lovely book overall.

This book is just what every dancer needs. A wonderful reference. It includes hundreds of photos. Specific notes and descriptions of correct execution of positions, steps, moves. I especially love that there are photos of the incorrect way, too. Goes into detailed explanations of why different exercises are important. Detailed coverage of everything ballet :)

Gretchen Warren's 'Classical Ballet Technique' is a very thorough explanation of classical ballet theory, suitable for intermediate and advanced students. If you are a beginner student, you might like more explanations of the basic technique and less of the advanced material. There are two things I don't like about this book. First, the photos are mostly small and are all black and white with the models often wearing dark or grey leotards. This means it's hard to see some of the details. Second, it's quite old-fashioned (first published in the 1980s). So, some of the language and views, for example the section on the 'ideal ballet body', are out-dated and restrictive. This means, I wouldn't give this to a young girl. It's really designed for the aspiring professional.

When I moved to a small town, I was asked to teach ballet at a local studio. Because I had never been a profesional, I was a bit apprehensive, and a bought a couple books for help. Also my teaching methods,especially the placement of the pelvis, differed greatly from the studio director's view. This book, as well as the book, Inside Ballet Technique were wonderful guides to share with my students. Through pictures in this book, I could show my students how poor alignment, like a tucked under pelvis, can destroy your posture and can greatly hinder your development as a dancer. Without this book and its pictures, I don't know if my students would have ever believedthat a neutral, properly placed pelvis is the foundation for ballet. (They had been taught for years the grip/tucked pelvis method) If there are teachers or students out there that think tucking your pelvis under will help improve your posture or that gripping your butt is the end all answer to all technique problems, they need to read this book as well as read Inside Ballet Technique. These two books dispel many of the Ballet myths that are taught every day in classes.

As a photographer I was keen to venture out and try my hand at ballet photography and I started out quite wrong - I shot a lot of blur and unwanted motion within ballet - a big no no! I needed to learn what ballet was and this book helped me see and later visualize what would be coming, and I feel through books like this one my skill at photographing dance improved.There are not many options out there like this one, which is also surprising, so this one gets even more of a thumbs up as it must be regarded such a great book for those new to ballet.

Well photographed and illustrated a recommended book for any would be aspiring ballerina or those who love Classical ballet. I only wish the book was still available as a hardcover book for durability and the photos were in color instead of black and white. Yes, color printing costs more, but in this case the price would have been well worth it; otherwise I would have given it a five star rating. Makes a great gift.

My boyfriend's ballet friends are always coming over and flipping through this book. They LOVE it. Bought this copy as a gift for one of the aforementioned ballet friends, and she was thrilled.I know next to nothing about any kind of dance, but my crowd includes former and current professional dancers, choreographers, artistic directors, and costumers, and they all think this is a terrific book.

pretty good read. Learned a lot about something I didn't know.well researched and written.But, I don't buy off on the mystery solved part.

The author by the title wanted to sell her book, it was terrible! Totally ignored present evidence, and her solution was absurd. Pure marketing trash! Would like money back; though it came as a gift.

Don't read this book if you are expecting to learn the solution to the Money Pit! But if you believe that earthquakes and land subsidence could have created the 100 plus foot deep, cribbed hole with oak platforms and other barriers along the way, well, you'd beleive anything so go ahead and read it.The statement that the mystery is solved is ridiculous. Probably made up to sell the book. Don't look here if you want to learn the answer to the money pit!Also, I did not need to get all those lessons in naval stores - hemp, flax, masts, spars, planking, tar and pitch, what they are, how they are made, etc. 30 pages out of 121. I think it was just added to try and get enough words to make a book.

I'm sure there were tar kilns on Oak Island, but the evidence that the Money Pit was one of them is thin. The geological/earthquake speculation really weakens her argument. Worth a read for cheap.

I have studied and reasearched Oak Island for about forty years. I commend Ms. Steele for not following tradition and accepting the treasure theory. There is no treasure on Oak island but Ms. Steele has not discovered the solution. There are too many claims that are not consistent with known facts about the project. I also found the book difficult to read. There was too much about the history of naval stores and a disjointed description of her theory. The graphics were almost impossible to read. A solution to the mystery does exist but this is not it. I cannot recommend this book..

It was a book to read but one I can't say I would/wouldn't recommend. The author did their homework referencing.

Treasure seekers would do well to read this book before spending another dime on Oak Island digs. Ms. Steele's solution seems to be so much more than a theory that I can't help believing she has nailed it. The material presented here is well researched and backed up by printed documents from the era in which the original pits were dug as well as supporting evidence to explain the presence of other artifacts, stone markings and tree carvings found on the island. Was there treasure on the island at one time? At this point, it's anyone's guess. After reading this book and 3 others about Oak Island, my feeling is that if there had been buried treasure it is long gone, but it was certainly never placed in the aptly named 'money pit' which has absorbed the fortunes of so many with no return on their investment. Ms. Steele's carefully researched explanation for the existence of the pit of many layers with tunnels reaching out toward the sea is completely believable.

This book is ridiculously misleading and wrong about many facts. Ciao is not pronounced 'chow' but 'cha-o'. Italians don't typically eat cake for breakfast. When the Romans kicked out the last Etruscan king, they did not create the Roman Empire, but the Roman Republic (the empire was founded 500 years later!). After Rome fell, Italy did not split inti city-states, but became unified as the Ostrogothic kingdom. After that the Byzantines reconquered the peninsula, then the Lombards seized half of it, and eventually Charlemagne added the Lombard territory to his empire. It's only after the split of the Carolingian empire that Italy started getting divided into increasingly smaller duchies, principalities and republics, hundreds of years after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. It's not difficult to get one's basic facts straight and it prevents children from learning mistakes.

I lived in Italy for a year and am now a kindergarten teacher. This book was SO PERFECT to teach them all of the wonderful facts about Italy. I highly recommend. After purchasing this one, I purchased the whole set.

Even the obvious points in the "what not to do" section are strongPROS+ Great self-diagnostic/reflection methodology+ Real essays and real examples+ What not-to-do section with every chapter+ Practical - it is not a bunch of tricks or gimmicks but solid value+ Numerous quotes from admissions officers+ Section on Letters of Recommendation (LOR)CONS- Essays are getting a bit dated in this edition, so awaiting the second edition- None reallyBottom line: taking into consideration that an Admissions consultant could cost $2-4K per school, this is a great guide. Of the essay books, this does rank among the best in most categories. The advice is well thought out and gives you not only samples of prose but things to consider from the school's point of view. Items like word choice and essay style are also considered in detail.As one of the other reviewers mentioned, most essays are unfortunately rediculous in length. If the essays could be infinite in length (as they are for basically only one top-25 school I can think of), these essays and the detail provided in them would be dead on. Once you begin writing however, you will realize that some of the detailed advice given and the rubrics to follow will quickly consume the 1-2 page limit and you'll need to start over and refine or completely rewrite. Use the essays for guidelines but be careful of all the prosaic fluff that the author recommends you put into your essay to create good "stories", sometimes using several double spaced pages just to set up a backstory in an essay-useless when you have only 2 pages to answer 3 subquestions!The author spends alot of time saying, "Do X" and then within the same few pages or within the book will say, "Be careful of X," constraining you into an impossible writing situation. He will also do the opposite where he will scare you into the need to write too much by saying things like, "Make sure you talk about this aspect of your career. But don't forget this. And don't forget this. Oh yeah, and don't forget..." Again, if you have the common sense to get into business school, this book should be an inspirational outline more than the be-all-end-all of essay writing. The author should take care to give more examples of shorter essays which most top 25 schools want.My advice: If you are looking to study multiple books, put this one on your list. If you are looking for one really great book, this may not be it (though I strongly advise you against using only one book.)

I found this book very helpful in my graduate school application process. I am a slightly unique grad school candidate in that I applied to both MBA and MS in Marketing programs. I am already strong writer, but whenever I begin writing I really need a lot of "inspiration" and examples to produce a coherent "story" for myself, and this book provided exactly what I needed. Being able to read a lot of sample essays really helped me generate strong personal statements. There were also a lot of tips, pointers and guidance provided as well. In the end, after using this book I was accepted to 4 out of the 5 graduate schools to which I applied, and I was offered scholarships to 2 of them. I highly recommend this book if you are going through the application process!

Clear, step-by-step advice on how to pick your strongest essay topics and how to write them in the most compelling way. As a former MBA Admissions Director, I recommend Paul's "data-mining" exercises and questions to derive your best material, and his insights are spot on in terms of what admissions are looking for. You can also find plenty of sample essays. There are also helpful chapters on recommendations and wait list strategy. The only downside is that this book is very much focused on essays (as opposed to school selection, resumes, etc). Nevertheless, great value! I bought this book for help with essays and a lot of the advice was obvious. However, it had some good examples and it did answer a few important questions I had, which definitely made the book worth any investment. I would give it 3 stars but the section on interviews was actually quite thorough. But if you're looking for an in-depth MBA essay guide, you may want to supplement this with another book and internet research.

Great book! Provided me with much-needed structure to begin my essay-writing process, and included many examples which illustrated the possibilities for me.

The book provides a decent set of guidelines for writing essays. However, the example essays are all extremely long. For example the second (Chinese applicant to Wharton ) essay is at least 1,500 words when the word limit is only 1,000. I'm not sure if you can actually use any of these examples because of this. Also the outlines, introduction, conclusion etc the author suggests will take up valuable space. Overall the book is useful second or third resource but definitely not a definitive source for MBA essay writing. I found the "How to Get into.." book to be much more useful for my purpose.What was most disappointing was that even for the longest essays the author comments never addressed the length of the essay!
